No.
The left knows that shared misery keeps the masses placated. If everyone you know is struggling, then most will accept that as the natural state of being. Americans, in general, are lazy and stupid. They won’t revolt as long as American Idol is on, and the malls are open.

“They won’t revolt as long as American Idol is on, and the malls are open.”

Two of the four major malls around here are becoming a ghost town.

I used to think this way but an awful lot of people are becoming aware.

I have a cafe press bumper sticker that says “no thanks I already have a messiah”. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had double-takes and thumbs-up.

Sadly I have to agree.

As more folks become worried about losing their jobs, either to an H1b visa holder or it being shipped to Asia, they'll welcome even more Fedgov power. Let's face it, going hungry isn't too chic right now.

Right you are. AS I have often said, "All the government has to do to keep the American people in line is make cable and flat screens "Constitutional Rights" and tell them that higher taxes on "The Rich" will pay for it.

Blame another FReeper, but I have to agree with you.

There will be no revolt.

The following was recommended reading to me, yes from another FReeper: Haves Without Have-Nots: Essays for the 21st Century on Democracy and Socialism (1991). Looking this up led me to something else I have found very interesting.

The Mass Psychology of Fascism, http://www.whale.to/b/reich.pdf

Page 25 discusses an idea regarding how:
He will not understand why the reactionary woman does not even want to listen to his economic program. The answer is the following: the suppression of the gratification of primitive material needs has a result different from that of the suppression of the gratification of the sexual
needs. The former incites rebellion. The latter, [26] however—by repressing the sexual needs and by becoming
anchored as moralistic defense—paralyzes the rebellion against either kind of suppression. More than that, the
inhibition of rebellion itself is unconscious. The conscious mind of the average unpolitical individual does not even show a trace of it.

I would submit the secular moralistic view of things like Climate Change, Health Care etc. inhibit what should have been the natural rebellion of a free people.

Dangerous reading ...maybe, but fascinating in it explains what they are trying to do to us.
