Have you read the book "Goodbye Darkness" A Menoir of the Pacific War by William Manchester
The book is probably out of print by now.If a person looked hard enough you could find one used. He fought with the 1st Marine Division at Okinawa and was badly wounded. His detailed story on the battle of Guadalcanal is better than any I have seen anywhere else.
