THOUSANDS of struggling families are being disconnected from power at the same time as the State's energy bosses pocket thousands of dollars in performance bonuses.
A damning report by the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) shows more than 18,000 residents had their power cut off for non-payment of bills.
One in seven of the disconnections was of a pensioner. The State's pricing watchdog has warned disconnecting rates could rise as a new pricing regime comes into effect in July.At the same time as families struggle to pay the bills, new annual report figures show the salaries of the State's nine energy provider bosses to be increasing.

Looks like another one of those ‘women and children (and pensioners) hardest hit’ stories to me. Typical left-wing journalist formula.
How many poor poor homeless people can’t afford bread and milk? While the greedy retailers thrive...
My power bill has only increased by $30 in the last twelve months.
Exactly. Where are the conservatives? Why aren't they shouting this from the roof tops.
“>>Thats over 2.5 billion $$ a year in revenue for the power company
Do your power plants run on air and unicorn farts? Fuel is expensive and fuel transportation is even more expensive.”

Most Americans don’t know the difference. Thanks publik skools!
With cap an trade coming, people here won't b able to afford anything. We'll be living like Obama’s half brothers and sisters in slums.

I suppose it’s too much to ask that these deadbeats pay their bills....
No, I do not equate monetary revenue of a company with 'evil mwahahah profits'. That's basically socialist thinking.
1st Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

I’d like to see how the “poor” would react if we passed a law that says you can’t have cell phones, cable TV, internet, or a car payment unless you demonstrate the ability to reliably pay for the things that liberals call a “basic human right”? (I’m not calling you a liberal, but free electricity for Democrat voters is always an issue for liberals.)
After all, if electricity is a basic human right, then shouldn’t it be a higher priority in everyone’s budget than a cell phone, 6 pack, or a night at the movies? I know that when I was poor and couldn’t afford to pay all my bills, the rent and power were always paid first!
