WaPo: TSA nominee misled Congress, violated security protocols
Hot Air ^ | January 2, 2010 | Ed Morrissey

After the EunuchBomber attack fizzled on Christmas Day, both Republicans and Democrats wasted no time in pointing fingers, primarily battling over the Department of Homeland Security, even though DHS had little if anything to do with the security issues involved in that attempt. Republicans called for the resignation of Janet Napolitano after her ridiculous insistence two days later that “the system worked.” Democrats blamed the attack on Senator Jim DeMint for placing a hold on Barack Obama’s nominee to head TSA, Erroll Southers, even though Obama hadn’t even bothered to nominate Southers until late September, and TSA had nothing to do with the decision to allow Umar Abdulmutallab onto the Northwest flight he attempted to destroy.

Yesterday, the Washington Post reported that DeMint may have done everyone a favor anyway. According to documents obtained by reporter Robert O’Harrow, Southers misled Congress about an incident in which he violated privacy laws to investigate his wife’s lover:

Much like John Brennan. When Obozo puts someone in charge, its a pretty fair bet that they’ve been on the wrong side of the laws or organization that they’ll now control.

Obama has all the innocence of a mafia don hiring a hit man for his “unique” talents.

I find it interesting that the article appeared in the Washington Post. Is it possible (remotely?) that they are finally doing some honest to God reporting?

Here's Senator DeMint's statement.

"Erroll Southers has not been forthcoming about whether he'll give union bosses control of our airport security, which is one of the most important decisions he'll make as head of the TSA. Mr. Southers' unwillingness to form a position on collective bargaining seriously calls into question his judgment, because it weakens security and has already been rejected by the CIA, the FBI, the Secret Service, the Coast Guard, and by every previous TSA administrator."

“And now we learn that he misled Congress in sworn testimony about accessing confidential records. The TSA is one of the most critical security agencies in the War on Terror, and the Senate must carefully vet this nominee. If Mr. Southers is unwilling to put security ahead of politics and if he can't tell the truth, then he's not qualified and should not be confirmed."

The Obama administration is soon going to be a laughingstock.

When it concerns safety from terrorism here at home, there are no longer Democrats and Republicans; there are only Americans. This issue transcends party lines and we will see more of that.

The brotha is another tool.

Nappy is in favor of unionizing TSA as well. 0 is beholden to Andy Stern. Is Penetta against it? Blair?

Excellent questions, maggief. Blair, Panetta?

I think we should call DeMint’s office to ask.

This damn administration purposely selects people with baggage for positions of power, and this guy’s role is blatantly obvious: unionize the government workers at airports. But for government’s union workers, the unions are losing membership. I don’t know if Southers confirmation can be stopped.
