One More Feminist Upset Over Unfair Aging Differences
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 01/02/2010 6:51:38 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

If you bother to read Joanna Weiss' column in today's Boston Globe, expect to get a sense of deja . . . lu. Like untold screeds that have preceded it, "Hollywood’s burden on aging women" stamps its feet over the unequal treatment of aging in men and women.

You know: male stars are allowed to age gracefully, but women must struggle ever-harder to conform to a youthful stereotype of sex-appeal. Unfair!

The feminist response is to blame the culture, in this case embodied by Hollywood, for promoting shallow, sexist values. But the fault, dear Joanna, is not in our stars but in our ourselves, or more precisely, in our DNA.

Sophia Loren is still a very beautiful women today at 75. She has not allowed herself to become an overstuffed frump.

Unhealthy fat and unhealthy loss of body tone are no more attractive in older men than in older women.

You certainly make a valid point--I also know women who go through all sorts of things so that their women friends will keep telling them how "great" they look--LOL!

Although I'm well into my senior years, I'll never play that game. I am what I am--my husband has hung in there for 48 years, so guess he's not bothered. That's all that matters to me.

You had to go and slip Debbie Schlussel in there. Shame on you.

She can't spackle on enough make-up to make her halfway attractive.

“It came out POCK e ston with heavy emphasis on the POCK.”

We’ve always pronounced it that way — since the ‘50s — when our friends were missionaries in Pakistan. That’s the correct pronunciation.

I assume she had no complaints when she was young and the world was given to her BECAUSE of her age/gender.

I think men take very serious the Lord's order to be fruitful and multiply...It shows in how they react to the female....good for them...:O)

Or the species would have died out a long time ago...

Women on the other hand say, I am tired of cooking, here eat this apple..:O)

I expect you’re right. These people are incapable of original thoughts. It’s the old saying, “Monkey see, monkey do.”

..Nature made the qualities that most women find sexually attractive in a man (confidence & stature) increase with age, while the qualities that most men find sexually attractive in women (smooth skin and gravity free curves) decrease with age...

I always thought that proved that God must have some weird sense of humor.

(from an email) Can you believe it? This guy wins $181 million in the lottery on a Wednesday, and then finds the love of his life just 2 days later.

Wow! - What luck!

I have seen that picture, and story that goes with passed around from time to time. Just often enough that I get a smile out of it every time I see it.

Thanks for posting that. I think it says a lot about inner beauty (and peace of mind) being reflected in outward beauty.
