Wizards Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton pull pistols on each other

Teammates pull weapons on each other

Guess they're still the Bullets at heart.

NBA all-star Gilbert Arenas and his Washing ton Wizards teammate Javaris Crittenton drew guns on each other in the team's locker room during a Christmas Eve dispute over a gambling debt, The Post has learned.

League sources say the pistol-packing point guards had heaters at the ready inside the Verizon Center, the Washington, DC, home of the Wizards -- whose name was changed from the Bullets over gun- vi olence concerns.

It was the three- time all-star Arenas, 27, who went for his gun first, sources said, draw ing on the 22-year-old Crit tenton, who quickly brandished a firearm as well.

It was not clear whether other teammates saw the shocking standoff, which happened on a practice day.

The duel in DC -- unprecedented in sports history -- was sparked when Critten ton became enraged at the vet eran guard for refusing to make good on a gambling debt, a source said.

"I'm not your punk!" Crittenton shouted at Arenas, according to a league source close to the Wizards.

That prompted Arenas to draw on Crittenton, who then also grabbed for a gun, league security sources said.

A playground pal of Crittenton's from Atlanta, Kendrick "Bookie Ball" Long, confirmed the locker-room standoff and said he learned of it directly from the third-year player out of Georgia Tech.

"He [Arenas] was f- - -ing with him; he [Crittenton] was just defending himself!" declared Long, who said the dispute was over money but would not elaborate.

The Wizards announced on Christmas Day that Arenas had admitted to bringing guns to the locker room...

Why do these guys think they need to be armed in an NBA locker room? What a couple of clowns. It's like they didn't even see what happened to Plaxico Burress? These guys make enough money to hire bodyguards if they feel threatened.
Don't get me wrong. I'm a backer of the 2nd Amendment. People should have the right to defend their homes and such but these guys should be aware of the world they live in.
This could easily end the career of both of these guys if the reported story pans out. Unbelievable!

"Ban them both for life from the NBA."

That's the right punishment - after all, I'm sure both the NBA and the Wizards organization have rules against bringing firearms to the workplace. Plus, I'm sure neither player had concealed carry permits -I don't think DC even has concealed carry permits - and even in the states with the most liberal CC rules, public arenas are a no-no for weapons.

But, with the NBA's collective bargaining agreement, coupled with the strength of their player's union, there is NO WAY a lifetime ban would hold up. Look at Ron Artest who beat down a fan, or Latrell Sprewell who tried to murder his coach - both enjoyed long careers after those incidents.

In NYC? You'd fry. You'd fry and then they'd throw you in jail and toss the key.

"Why do these guys think they need to be armed in an NBA locker room? "

The paragraph in the story about the Feds looking into it, and it possibly having something to do with gambling, might be revealing. If you're into the mob for several million in gambling debts, you might want a little extra defense yourself. This of course, further bolsters my long-held contention that ALL professional sports are fixed by the mob. All of them, but especially basketball, where it so easy for a single player to determine the outcome, or to shave the right number of points.

"I'm a backer of the 2nd Amendment. People should have the right to defend their homes and such but these guys should be aware of the world they live in."

It's not just the having the weapons that's the problem - and that is a problem - it's the fact that they both brandished them.

A bullet is a rather useless thing without the proper tool.

And neither one of them had the stones to actually pull the damned trigger. Don’t draw if you’re not ready to USE.

Most don't have a room temperature IQ. What does that say for those who idolize them?

“On May 15, 1997, the Bullets officially became the Washington Wizards. The change generated some controversy because Washington is a predominantly African-American city and Wizard is a rank in the Ku Klux Klan.”

You are no doubt correct. But a ban would give everyone an opportunity to explain their actions and present their arguments. But what may be most damaging for the players isn't the gun-play, but the gambling.
