I first read something about such a LNG offshore offload suggested for Boston because of 9/11. This is a very dangerous situation that should be mitigated asap.

“Past studies have concluded that a liquefied natural gas leak in Boston Harbor could catch fire and even explode, threatening people more than three-quarters of a mile away.”

Algerian tankers have been landing in Everett Mass and bringing in natural gas for decades. Somehow foreign gas is cheaper than American? Is Yemeni natgas cheaper than Algerian?

I’ll bet they (Massachusetts) are locked in long term because US natgas has plunged in price

Nah, just get a sweater and a candle for each Taxachussetts resident, and they can lead the way on conservation, CO2 mitigation, and environmentalism. Send the LNG tankers back, and offending local Muslims by profiling won't be necessary.

Win-win!

Exxon Gives Up On LNG Facility

10/29/04
By BEN RAINES
Staff Reporter

ExxonMobil Corp. is abandoning its attempt to build a docking terminal on Mobile Bay for supertankers carrying liquefied natural gas, according to a Thursday statement from the company. The proposed $600 million facility would have unloaded superchilled natural gas, or LNG, from ships arriving from the Middle East.

Officials with the Houston-based company had said the terminal would create 50 permanent jobs and would ensure that natural gas supplies in the area remained competitively priced.

But opponents echoed a number of LNG scientists, who said that a terminal on Mobile Bay could pose significant safety threats, particularly if an LNG tanker was involved in a worst-case accident or a terror attack.

You have got to be kidding. Floating bombs from Yeman come to mind. Immagine a giant floating propane bottle. I believe this could be as bad as the Texas City disaster if that much LNG was set up to "accidentally" blow... I wouldn't take the chance. Rig up a couple of miles of line and offload it from afar, or not at all. Where is DHS and Neo-polit'ical'an'o on this?

Sure, the terrorists are bad but our safety is under greater threat from the voters in MA.

Hey Mayor Menino is this the same LNG facility that you refuse to let the Boston Fire Department implement a contingency plan for? Is this the same LNG facility the Boston Fire Department needs to protect with a Fire Boat that is almost 40 years old and is bearly sea worthy? The same Fire Boat that there has been a request for replacement in every fiscal year budget request the last 16 years that you have been mayor? How come Boston is the only city in the top 120 major metropolitan areas that comprise the Urban Area Security Initiative NOT to have a FULL TIME Fire Department HazMat team, that would be needed immediately if something happened at this LNG facility? Well you could care Less about the people in Charlestown because you dont do well in elections there. Plus to hell with the people of Everett and Somerville because they cant vote for you. Oh, I guess with the people who cause Man Made Disasters now coming out of Yemen, it is politically correct to ask for something from your buddies Coupe Deval and the lizard king huh?

WHDH.com: Boston - "GOV. PATRICK ON YEMEN LNG TANKERS IN BOSTON HARBOR" (SNIPPET: "The Coast Guard's decision to allow LNG tankers from Yemen into Boston Harbor comes despite concerns about the country supporting terrorists. "I've spoken with the senior-most people at homeland security, and they have taken it all the way up the chain to the White House national security advisors. I think that everything that can be done has been done. They have taken a whole host of new and more intrusive security measures, and that is what all of us are looking for," said Gov. Patrick. Yet Boston Mayor Thomas Menino blasted the Coast Guard’s decision.") (February 3, 2010, 2:50 pm)
