The former girlfriend of a 20-year-old San Jose woman who died Monday after possibly being dragged by a car in Alviso was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of murder after being questioned by police for hours.
Jennifer Bautista, 19, of Sunnyvale, was booked Wednesday night in connection with the death of Letty Martinez, 19, said Officer Jermaine Thomas, a police spokesman. Thomas said Tuesday that Bautista and Martinez had an "altercation, verbal or physical" Monday, before Martinez was either dragged by a moving car or as she tried to hold onto it. Martinez was left lying in the middle of Michigan Avenue, not far from her home, and died later that day at a hospital.

The traffic stop came one day after police asked for the public's help in locating Bautista. Martinez's mother told the Mercury News this week that her daughter had broken up with Bautista several times, most recently two or three weeks ago, but that Bautista had kept bothering her. Court filings show that Bautista was granted a domestic violence restraining order against Letty Martinez in January after the couple scuffled in Sunnyvale.
