My son-in-law who is currently deployed to Iraq is bringing in the New Year by raising his right hand for a six year reenlistment. I am extremely proud of him. He has fought an uphill battle in many areas, but has kept at it. His dad left the family when he was 5 and he left his mother when he was 15 as she was physically and mentally abusing him. I am in the unique position of being both father-in-law and father to him. The same with Mrs SLB she is mom, mother, and mother-in-law all wrapped up in one.
Keep him and others in his unit in your prayers. He spends over 50% of his time in convoys and there are still plenty of IEDs in Iraq to deal with.
