Our New Years Tradition starts each year at 1am - we head out to the staging area where the floats for the Rose Parade are parked on Orange Grove, and go walk up and down the street, looking at all the wonderful creations on display, up close (and typically able to talk to the creators.)

We always bring along a couple large thermoses of coffee, and one of just hot water with some packets of hot chocolate and bags of tea, to offer to uniformed service members we always come across on our walk. We’ve never yet made it back to the car with a cup to spare for the drive home. :)

An old piece updated with pictures, including the liberal brain tumor Rush Limbaugh removed from me. It even has a picture of me, but be forewarned that looking at it may create sudden vomit on your keyboard:

Go to bead before midnight. Wake up early (without a hangover!) to coffee, XM radio and FR. Eat shrimp and popcorn while watching college bowl games. GO OHIO STATE! End the afternoon with a supper of pork loin and sauerkraut that has been slow cooking in the crock pot. And for some reason I've loved watching Forrest Gump every NY day evening for the last 10 or so years.

HAPPY NEW YEAR Kathy! Thanks for all your posts. Big Hug to my AK FR sister. ;)

We went to to the Kingshead Pub in Santa Monica a couple of times to cheer in the New Year at 4pm (Midnight GMT, with London closed circuit). It was dark in there so it was always fun to leave while still light outside with all our New Year’s Eve regalia on, and for people up and down the street to look at us as though we were crazy...which we were...and are, for those of you who would add it.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! KinA, and to all of our Freeper Family.

Good evening Kathy and have a Happy New Year’s Day.

We TRY to stay up until 12AM, but that has been hard lately.

Since this will be the wife and I on Dec 31st, without daughter for the first time ever, I may hit the sack early.

As a classical music fanatic, I have a number of rather strange customs. On New Years Eve, I listen to Orff's "Carmina Burana" (1975 Previn recording) and the Beethoven Ninth Symphony (1987 Norrington recording with period instruments).

At midnight, I open up some smoked salmon, cut up some crusty French bread and drink some brut champagne.

On New Years Day, I put on my DVD of the Metropolitan Opera production of Wagner's "Die Meistersinger", all five hours of it.

Like I said, I'm strange.

Aloha and Hau'oli Makahiki Hou, Night Owl!

I love traditions....'Early to bed, early to rise'...so I'll head off to the rack and wake up at midnight to the noise of fireworks. I figure I'll get two or three uninterupted hours of sleep some time past two.
