The Mayo Clinic will stop accepting Medicare patients at one of its primary care clinics in Arizona. Why? The government doesn’t pay enough: [snip] This is nothing compared to what might happen under Democratic health overhaul plans, which would slash Medicare spending by nearly $500 billion over 10 years.

a person must have plan A (in hospital coverage). everyone can opt out of Medicare plan B.

Thats it.

The plan is simple.

Reduce health care's share of the economy from 17% to 10%.

By no longer funding the last year of life.

I guess you didn’t read my comment. I said part A was a given, but part B and D were optional.

The Rats have a solution to this: just make a law FORCING them to accept whatever the government decides to give them.

That was the law in Massachusetts under Mike Dukakis for a year or so. They had to repeal it after hundreds of doctors left for less enslaving conditions elsewhere.

Unfortunately, there is nowhere else to flee when they try this on a nation-wide basis. Most older doctors will probably just retire. Younger ones may move into other careers.

You are not required to sign up for medicare when turning 65. But if you sign up at a later age, your monthly premium is considerably higher than if you had started at 65.

Not always easy to determine what is the last year of life.

How is it an entitlement mentality for me to expect to be able to use the Medicare program when I have been paying for that many years, as it is automatically removed from my paycheck???? FREE??? Living off the dole??? I’ve been paying for Medicare and will be paying for it for the next 10 years, at least, and at this rate, like Social Security, which I have also paid for, will never be able to use it.

I am retired Military and I don't get my medical care for free...My medical bills for 2008 was over $2000. I work and pay taxes and Social Security also and I am not counting on it being there when I retire.

Ask yourself this how many people collecting Social Security and medicare/medicare have never, or family members, paid taxes.
