BATH, Maine Cruising through the darkness in rough seas, the USS Ross encountered a rogue wave that smashed into the destroyer's bow, sending a shudder along the entire ship that knocked sleeping crew out of their bunks and damaged the sonar housing.
As alarms sounded, sleepy sailors scrambled to shore up the leak.
"We cracked the hull and kept on going like it was nothing,"...

That’s a ship alright.

Nice ships, but it is time to build ships that are more stealthy and harder for a missile to hit.
I was aboard a Spruance DD and we raced an older oil burning cruiser, the RK Turner, and...well, it really wasn't a race. We left her standing still.
CVN carriers...oh boy, that's a whole nother story.
I seriously wonder it it’s at all worth it to spend colossal sums on “stealth” ships? I know they can’t be made anywhere near as radar-invisible as stealth aircraft.
Now the application of high-tech to lower the need for crewmen might make sense.
That is, I believe, why the then still-recently refurbished BB’s had to be sent back to the ghost fleet—their antiquainted technology required too many sailors to operate.
Yea, that’s a beauty!
Jeez, at least post a cheesecake shot of a tennis gal who can actually win matches.
Got any Sharapova?
She plays tennis?
She sort of did, until recently.
Like Tiger, 95% of her income was in endorsements.
Unlike Tiger, she only boffed one lothario at a time.
Who cares?
:)

Given a submarine’s operating-profile IS stealth, and your argument/observation about aircraft being better suited for being nearly radar-invisible perhaps the answer is a submarine/aircraft-carrier. {I heard the Japanese had two at the close of WWII that we captured... and then blew up in war-games.}
Which one? I did a few years on the Hoel (DDG-13) in the early 70s. Great little ships.
Which Spru-can were you on and when? I was on the RKT (CG-20)from 84 to 87 in CIC. When did this race happen? During one of the Atlantic transits?
Wish I could afford one.
