The terror threat at sea
All of a sudden, there is lots of discussion online about terrorist threats to U.S. warships in the Middle East. Galrahn has an excellent post today about a new warning for ships, including this money quote: We assess a direct, grave threat, by Al Qaeda, against U.S. Navy warships and U.S.-flagged vessels. Moreover, if U.S.-flagged merchantmen are still steaming anywhere in the U.S. 5 Fleet area of responsibility without armed security, they do so now at a considerably elevated risk.
Theres more: Richard Wachtel, a spokesman for the Middle East Media Research Institute, tells Scoop Deck that a post on a jihadist Web site Wednesday called for people to gather intelligence about the U.S. and international warships that patrol the Gulf of Aden, the Arabian Sea and the Persian Gulf. Heres the whole post, provided by Wachtel:
The affair with the U.S. Navy began several years ago, when the lions of Al-Qaeda struck the destroyer U.S.S. Cole, in Yemen; now, with Allahs help, all the American vessels in the seas and oceans, including aircraft carriers, submarines, and all naval military equipment deployed here and there that is within range of Al-Qaedas fire, will be destroyed
To this end, information on every U.S. naval unit and only U.S. [units]!! should be quietly gathered [as follows:] [the vessel’s] name, the missions it is assigned; its current location, including notation of the spot in accordance with international maritime standards; the advantages of this naval unit; the number of U.S. troops on board, including if possible their ranks, and what state they are from, their family situation, and where their family members (wife and children) live; (snip)

CNN reports that more than 25% of the Muslims in America are converts who have embraced Islam in the wake of 9/11
Not off topic RR! Janet nincompoop is head of Homeland Security. I hated her as Gov of AZ because of her stance on illegal immigration. I SCREAMED when she got this position. All I could say to myself was "Are you KIDDING me?!"
But then Rahm was my congresscritter & I knew if Obama got in what would follow, then all the other criminals sniffin BO, I knew this administration would so reek. I grew up knowing 90% of the cast of characters. The Clinton years made me painfully aware of the rest. And it's come full circle now
OMGosh we were that close! I use to live at the theater @ Devon & Western. My first bar was near there. Do you remember the park @ Devon & Pratt that had a live zoo? It was a WONDERFUL area. I HAD to move in 99’. I grew up around Little Warsaw
Our Mrs. Cindy reported on pirates for years long ago...many never understood it. I knew the problem would become a profession thanks to Cindy’s daily reports. She got it on the ground level
I don’t remember a live zoo at all. Will have to ask Mom about that.
We were just west of Sheridan around Devon and Magnolia.
Yep, Cindy was on it years ago.
My biggest concern with that threat is the implication not only referencing the USS Cole - but going after the families of our sailors.
Your old area has now gone to public assistance. Sheridan was beautiful in the day

Him's too young to be a Mr. ~lol
That it was.
Now, it’s a rat infested hole.
Somalis seek back-door route to U.S.
With one refugee program closed, many try to enter via Mexico
LANCASTER, Calif. - The asylum seeker from Somalia hung his head as an immigration judge grilled him about his treacherous journey from the Horn of Africa. By air, sea and land he finally made it to Mexico, and then a taxi delivered him into the arms of U.S. border agents at San Diego.
Islamic militants had killed his brother, Mohamed Ahmed Kheire testified, and majority clan members had beaten his sister. He had to flee Mogadishu to live.
The voice of the judge, beamed by videoconference from Seattle, crackled loudly over a speaker in the mostly empty courtroom near the detention yard in the desert north of Los Angeles. He wanted to know why Kheire had no family testimony to corroborate his asylum claim.
More if you can stomach it..........

I don’t have time to research now but I heard the Somali pirates hijacked a ship with fertilizer on board and another with chemicals of some sort in the last week. Not a good combination.

Update from the Haskell’s about passenger #2 and unidentified man in Amsterdam...........
Kurt and Lori Haskell: We talked with a fellow Flight 253 passenger, but he saw something different
By Aaron Foley | MLive.com

kurt-lori-haskell.jpgCourtesy photoKurt and Lori HaskellA Michigan man who was aboard a near-fateful flight with terror suspect Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab says he has spoken with another passenger about a sharp-dressed accomplice he may have seen helping Abdulmutallab board the plane.
Posting on wife Lori’s blog and linking to it in a recent MLive post, Kurt Haskell says that a passenger named Bo Taylor offers some insight about the other man accompanying Abdulmutallab. Here’s what Taylor said:
“After we landed in Detroit I saw an older looking teenager who was African and looked NEARLY IDENTICAL to the terrorist bomber. Since he was a minor, and travelling alone, he was accompanied by an airport employee at all times. Kurt, this could have been the guy you saw in Amsterdam before we boarded.”
And here is Haskell’s response:
You see, if Bo is correct, than we have a possible future airline security breach since the teenager was allowed on the plane without a passport(apparently) due to coming from Sudan (apparently). This may be a common airline policy that is potentially problematic. If I am correct, well, we have an entirely different and much larger problem. Either way, there are concerns. Either way we need an open, honest, and thorough investigation. There is one way to conclusively determine who is correct, and that would be for the Amsterdam Airport to RELEASE THE CLOSED CAPTION VIDEO FOOTAGE! Seriously, the attack happened 8 days ago, the relevant video is probably 2-3 minutes in length and has(apparently) already been viewed by airport security personnel. So why hasn’t it appeared anywhere?
Assume it’s in all edtions, but site notes NY edition... must admit I can’t remember the last time I bought the paper.
