No Rise of Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide Fraction in Past 160 Years, New Research Finds
ScienceDaily ^ | Dec. 31, 2009 | staff

Posted on 12/31/2009 5:45:00 AM PST by saganite

Most of the carbon dioxide emitted by human activity does not remain in the atmosphere, but is instead absorbed by the oceans and terrestrial ecosystems. In fact, only about 45 percent of emitted carbon dioxide stays in the atmosphere. However, some studies have suggested that the ability of oceans and plants to absorb carbon dioxide recently may have begun to decline and that the airborne fraction of anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions is therefore beginning to increase.

snip

To assess whether the airborne fraction is indeed increasing, Wolfgang Knorr of the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Bristol reanalyzed available atmospheric carbon dioxide and emissions data since 1850 and considers the uncertainties in the data.

In contradiction to some recent studies, he finds that the airborne fraction of carbon dioxide has not increased either during the past 150 years or during the most recent five decades.

This is not new. This is properly called the CARBON CYCLE and anyone who's had even a rudimentary science education has learned about it.

So old mother earth who the leftists worship and adore is not such a fragile lady after all. Puny mankind has taken its best shot and she has hardly blinked. And didn’t we learn in science classes that CO2 is Good for plants?

Brilliant!!

I am guessing that Wolfgang mentioned 50 years and 150 years, but the Staff failed to grasp that the last 50 should be mentioned first, because if the fraction has not increased in the last 150 years, OF COURSE it has not increased in the last 50!!!!

This stuff casts doubt on the study and Science Daily.

I thought EPA and NASA had repealed the Carbon Cycle.

It doesn’t cast doubt on the study at all. It casts doubt on the editing abilities of whoever edited this piece but that’s all. If you want to cast doubt on the study you’ll actually have to read it, not this Readers Digest version at ScienceDaily.

Don’t ignore the money shot:

“However, some studies have suggested that the ability of oceans and plants to absorb carbon dioxide recently may have begun to decline and that the airborne fraction of anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions is therefore beginning to increase”

We are seeing the opening act of the setup. Since it is becoming increasingly obvious that the earth has not been warming, the new line is that it will son happen rapidly.

The study directly contradicts that statement but I’m sure it will be thoroughly peer reviewed unlike the GW studies cited by the IPCC.

Man's CO2 contribution to the greenhouse effect is 0.117%.

Carbon dioxide makes up, at most, .04% of the earth’s atmosphere (that’s 4/100 of 1 percent).

Don’t ignore the money shot:

Exactly. So, let's review what's going on here. A study of carbon dioxide data shows that the airborne fraction has not increased in the last 150 years. This study of actual data is at odds with the leading climate models that all assume that the atmospheric fraction is increasing.

But, since the warming cultists can just feel it in their bones that the atmospheric fraction should be increasing, they are going to tweak the data, adjust the models, and get the result that they want no matter what. Isn't science a wonderful thing?

"I thought EPA and NASA had repealed the Carbon Cycle."

Shush, there might be a new Executive waiting to be signed.

And the IPCC will issue some more dire warnings and our congresscritters will step up funding to combat climate change because 'the evidence is all around us.'

Even Sarah I caves to the notion that we must DO SOMETHING!

(excuse me while I retch for a while)

I hate when I do that.

SP formed a committee to examine the effect on the state of Alaska of the melting permafrost, which WAS happening.

I don’t think she ever fell in with the “gotta do SOMETHING” crowd.

Wasn’t it Gore who, when confronted with the “laws of physics” stated that “we’re in power now, we should repeal these laws”?
