The original sin of the good-riddance decade came in December of 2000, when the United States Supreme Court intervened to stop a complete recount of the votes in Florida and then declared George Bush to be the president.
This extreme judicial activism was not merely a devastating assault on American democracy. It set in motion the Bush presidency, and with it the pathologies that the Bush-Cheney administration imposed on the country in the form of unnecessary wars, failed economic policies, assaults on civil liberties and crudely divisive and hyper-partisan governance.
Bush, Dick Cheney and aides are surely to blame for much of what ailed America during the 2000s, and for what will ail America for decades to come.
But it was the U.S. Supreme Court's unprecedented meddling in the presidential election process an intervention that would have horrified the founders of a republic that was supposed to enjoy a separation of executive, legislative and judicial powers made the Bush-Cheney interregnum possible.

Excellent picture that perfectly depicts the disgusting theft attempted by the left of the presidency. Remember when they tried to count the votes behind closed doors?
Repeat a lie often enough, and sheeple will believe it.
The truth is that the SCOTUS kept GORE from stealing the election...THANK GOD!
Pres. Bush (a real natural citizen) actually won the election.
Nation Magazine joined in to try to fool America leading to
the coup d’etat that put in the undocumented Marxist
Kenyan by voter fraud, by prostitution for voters,
by ACORN multivotes (ignored by the DOJ) and a DOJ-Holder
coverup of voter intimidation (now encouraged by the DOJ).
Note to John Nichols:
You ain't seen nuthin yet. It has gotten a lot worse since Jan 20th of 2009.
Decade isn’t over.
” Repeat a lie often enough, and sheeple will believe it. “
Including the lie that this is the *end* of the decade??
It takes real talent to get two things wrong in the same headline.... ;)
100% true. And the liberal lie fails to admit the fact that it wasn't Bush who pushed the issue to the SCOTUS, it was Gore. Bush was the winner and Gore had conceded...then unconceeded and kept trying to get the rules changed. The SCOTUS just didn't let him complete the theft effort. And now we can see how insane Gore is, as you said, thank God Gore didn't win.
I think I just barfed up my last meal from a previous life...
No barf alert?
Have yo7 noticed that the left always wins recounts?
I can remember when I heard about 9/11 thinking "Thank God Algore is not President, and I know I was not the only one.
This Obozo waits 3 days to comment on the Detroit incident, and Bush was roundly criticized for finishing reading to children.
Good point, but I gave up fighting that argument when the millenium ended in 2000! LOL
People are so dumb..........
Based on the last couple of months of sound bites from AlGorebasm thank the Lord.
“Jhhust thew khilometeres down the eharth is incwedibly hot sheveral MHILLIONN degwqees....”
I don’t remember which newspaper(s) did it, but some rags that were not known for being particularly conservative did their own personal re-canvas of the votes in Florida during 2000. All concluded that Bush had the votes. This “Nation” sub-rag (not even worth being called a rag) is just a cheap agitator which has neither facts nor law on its side.
Hey, Nation Boy, wait ‘til the next decade you get an 8 year dose of President Palin!
Liberals always accuse everyone else of the crimes they have committed or are about to commit.
Welcome to post-partisan America! /s
More lib lies. Gore only wanted a partial recount of a few selective districts. Bush sued to say if there was to be a recount, then the whole state should be recounted. The Supreme Court intervened to stop Gores selective recount.
