Evangelical pastor Rick Warren is begging parishioners at his Southern California megachurch to cough up $900,000 before Jan. 1 to keep the parish out of the red.
In an urgent letter posted on the Saddleback Church Web site on Wednesday, Warren says expenses are up because parishioners are out of work and "the bottom dropped out" when year-end donations dropped dramatically.
He asks parishioners to donate before the new year to keep the Orange County church out of debt, The Orange County Register reports.
A spokeswoman for Warren said the church does not release financial details, so it's difficult to put the $900,000 shortfall in context.
Warren delivered the invocation at the inauguration of President Barack Obama and is the author of numerous books, including the best-selling "The Purpose Driven Life."

Maybe ACORN will give him some money!
Then he ought to have $900K to save his church.
I could use a little relief too , if anyone’s feeling generous
:^)
With all the book sales and money that has flowed-in, one would think this would be simple as pie.
This whole story sounds f-i-s-h-y to me. But hey......
I read a better pitch in an email from some guy in Nigeria.
He sucked up to The Usurper, maybe he’ll get a bailout from Tiny Tim.
Rick, why don’t you write another book that says all the same things as the previous books?
I must admit that Rick Warren held the only forum in 2008 where Obama was asked even slightly difficult questions.

A “book whose purpose is to raise money for the unemployed in our church” might not sell too well. He might be envious of Sarah Palin.
Sorry...that’s a little beyond my paygrade.
And Bummer knew just how to speak the born again code words. You’d think that if he was even as sincere as Jimmy Carter about it that he’d let it show all over the place. (Remember how “born again” became a popular buzzphrase during the Jimmy years?) But he dares not. He can’t even find time to do something that George W. Bush did every Sunday.
I gave up on him when he gave Obama a platform and was feted during the Inauguration.
“A spokeswoman for Warren said the church does not release financial details...”
Tell that to the loan officer! Oh wait — you just did. Sorry, I’m fresh out of soon-parted.
$900,000? Who is this guy Oral Roberts? Did he give all of the churches money to a “global warming fund”? I thought he gave 90% of his book proceeds to the church
Maybe Rick can get some Obama bailout money to fix his clock:

They don’t even have it right for Orthodox Christmas!!
You know, like Jesus and His Apostles. Ahem.
And what "context" would that be? Allowing yourself to become a megachurch with mega-expenses, deal with it Rick.
