Also, I wonder if “schoolchildren” is by US standards where it is customary for young men and women in their late teens to be in senior high (or high, depending on local nomenclature). By that point they might well be serving in US forces.

I’m wondering how old the “children” were, too, not that it’s believable that our soldiers would shoot handcuffed people.
