Does anyone realise that Interpol has no arrest power anywhere?

All they really do is act as a clearing house for information and distribute wanted notices called red sheets.

from http://www.interpol.int

........

INTERPOL is the world’s largest international police organization, with 188 member countries. Created in 1923, it facilitates cross-border police co-operation, and supports and assists all organizations, authorities and services whose mission is to prevent or combat international crime.

INTERPOL aims to facilitate international police co-operation even where diplomatic relations do not exist between particular countries. Action is taken within the limits of existing laws in different countries and in the spirit of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. INTERPOL’s constitution prohibits ‘any intervention or activities of a political, military, religious or racial character.’
.....

Of course I would not trust interpol OR the push to actually give them arrest powers in the future. If anything, if interpot is doing anything with the UN then it is by its nature political.

You should read the article. I read the content at the source links and if you check the USNCB/INTERPOL website their prime function has been to seek and arrest US fugitives. Unbelievably, they search for EPA fugitives.

Thanx for the facts. I have also read that Clinton did something similar, by altering one of Reagan’s EOs and then W changed it back.

Aren’t EOs only binding on Federal agencies? Perhaps this is directed at more hobbling of CIA?
