Why marijuana should be decriminalized altogether
Examiner.com ^ | December 4, 2009 | Sean O'Donnell

When I first considered the legality of marijuana many years ago, I was against its legalization because of marijuana’s stigma (for the record, I have never tried marijuana or wished to try it, and I most likely never will). However, after considering much economic, ethical, and scientific research concerning marijuana, I decided that society would benefit from the legalization of marijuana (and you should too).

(Great article arguing for marijuana decriminalization - which would save A LOT of money. True conservatives love stopping government waste of tax dollars.)

While we’re at it lets legalize crack, heroin and ice.

What possible harm could it have on society?

There is one difference, weed has real medicinal benefits whereas crack, Heroin and ice do not.

They should also hate broad application of commerce clause power. But good luck convincing enough of them. That's part of the reason we are where we are. The national government gets some of its broad powers from one side, some from the other. The two sides bicker over whose side is advocating correct powers, and in the meantime, the gubmint accrues ALL of it. It's a win-win for them. The parties get their differentiation, which keeps them in business, the national government gets more power, and each side gets to blame the other.

It’s more a question of what does it cost us to keep them illegal. Have the IRS taken a peek at your bank accounts lately? It’s the 1986 Drug Kingpin Act that lets them do it.

“The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. The former are idealists acting from highest motives for the greatest good of the greatest number. The latter are surly curmudgeons, suspicious and lacking in altruism. But they are more comfortable neighbors than the other sort.” -—Robert A. Heinlein

Thankfully, these substances are illegal, and therfore not a problem.

Always remember, this is a country that only a few generations back banned alcohol. And when you consider how tough it is to get an amendment passed, you begin to understand just how profound a fact it is.

Prohibition....a big gubmint boondoggle...

The Prohibitionists, when they foisted their brummagem cure-all upon the country under cover of the war hysteria, gave out that their advocacy of it was based upon a Christian yearning to abate drunkenness, and so abolish crime, poverty and disease. They preached a millennium, and no doubt convinced hundreds of thousands of naive and sentimental persons, not themselves Puritans, nor even democrats. That millennium, as everyone knows, has failed to come in.

Not only are crime, poverty and disease undiminished, but drunkenness itself, if the police statistics are to be believed, has greatly increased. The land rocks with the scandal. Prohibition has made the use of alcohol devilish and even fashionable, and so vastly augmented the number of users. The young of both sexes, mainly innocent of the cup under license, now take to it almost unanimously. In brief, Prohibition has not only failed to work the benefits that its proponents promised in 1917; it has brought in so many new evils that even the mob has turned against it. But do the Prohibitionists admit the fact frankly, and repudiate their original nonsense? They do not. On the contrary, they keep on demanding more and worse enforcement statutes—that is to say, more and worse devices for harassing and persecuting their opponents.

you want to legalize DRUGS?? fine.. do the following:

Create a test that can determine CURRENT USE of DRUGS.
Tested for current use while driving, the penalties are the same for Alcohol.

Once you can do this to PROTECT my family on the road... I WILL JOIN YOU in your quest to legalize... UNTIL THEN... I’m your worst enemy.

NOw, having said that... why don’t you go have another BONG HIT and watch your RON PAUL YOUTUBES.

While I would not personally care about the pros and cons from the government standpoint other than the money issue - I would no more hire someone who uses it than I would hire an alcoholic. Of course someone here probably will say I cant ask about it - but you know what - I ask about smoking - and personally I don’t hire anyone with a weird name, nor visible tattoos, nor excessive jewelry other than one earring.....

I guess I’m just a stick in the mud...

True conservatives don’t do drugs or see the value to society of doing drugs either.

Driving while texting or dialing a mobile phone is just as dangerous as DWI.
