THE CATHOLIC HEALTH ASSOCIATION SUPPORTS THE "MORALLY UNACCEPTABLE" ABORTION COMPROMISE

As we expected back in the summer, it appears that the Catholic Health Association, the trade organization for the nation’s Catholic hospitals is backing the Senate Health Reform Bill and the most recent “abortion compromise”. This is in open defiance of the Bishops position. According to the Christmas edition of the New York Times, the CHA “has signaled that they back the Senate’s compromise on the issue, raising hopes of breaking an impasse in Congress and stirring controversy within the church.” The Catholic Health Association said in a statement that they were: “ ‘encouraged’ and ‘increasingly confident’ that such a compromise ‘can achieve the objective of no federal funding for abortion.’” The left leaning Leadership Conference of Women Religious is pledging its support as well. Meanwhile, the Catholic Bishops Conference, just last week, called the Senate abortion compromise “morally unacceptable.” Citing abortion and their other concerns the Conference wrote: “Until these fundamental flaws are remedied, the bill should be opposed.”

Yep, the potential for not being able to participate in federal insurance program reimbursement is a great motivator for accepting compromise.

Does anyone know if this Association receives any funding from the Catholic Church or Catholic Charities?

I don't even like to hear Morally unacceptable. Killing babies at their most vulnerable stage is wrong.

Inserting the words morals makes it seem like there's some balance in this. There is none!!

Killing babies is wrong.

A telling phrase here — ‘CHA stands to make a healthy profit from this bill.’ tsk tsk.

Here is the CHA (Catholic Health Association) website if anyone would like to comment their feelings or address any questions to them:

http://www.chausa.org/Pub/MainNav/ContactUs/ContactUs.htm

All media inquiries should be directed to Fred Caesar at (202) 721-6321. ( fcaesar@chausa.org )

I don’t know but the Bishops in the various Diocese allow them to be designated as a Catholic Institution.

Can the Bishops remove the Catholic Designation?

CHA operates as a voluntary association of Catholic Hospitals groups and serves as a managerial and spiritual “think tank”, if you will, for member facilities.

I believe their funding is by assessment of their member hospitals, thus the Church and Charities indirectly fund them. I am not sure if there is direct funding.

The decision to back the compromise is an exercise in moral relativism. The old evil of abortion versus what they perceive to be the common good for their members and patients.

Please remember that Catholic Hospitals are run like any other hospital business.Even though they are profit in name, they still must make a profit to stay in business. However, through the charities and spirituality, they are able and do make available a great amount of free care.

It would be uplifting though to see them take an absolute moral stand against the murder of innocents.

I spoke with Fred Caesar this morning when I called to ask if CHA received money from the Catholic Church or Catholic Charities. His answer to me was “No, we do not”. I have since emailed him the following.

“Based on your Association’s recent support of the Health Care Bill now in Congress, I was interested in learning from whom you receive your financing. Can you answer this question for me? Are any of your operating funds received from Catholic hospitals or any organizations that have received donated monies from Catholic Charities? Is there a website that I can find that lists your donors or can you send me a list of your donors?

Thank you and have a Blessed Christmas and New Year,”

I have not yet received a reply from Mr. Caesar. I know that in this day and age, a person cannot ask a direct question and receive a direct answer. What I am referring to is the situation with The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2008/10/catholic-charit.html), when not too long ago it was discovered that they had been giving money to ACORN who turned around and gave it to Planned Parenthood. I do not think that Catholics want their donations funneled through one organization after another to end up with their donated money going to pay for abortions.

How very sad that O's admin can drive a wedge between Christians, I guess he's helping to separate the sheep from the goats.

I would recommend to the directors of Catholic hospitals Jesus' warning;

Better would it be to have a millstone tied around your neck and to be cast into the deepest ocean than to hurt one of His little ones.

If people really believed that abortion is murder there would be thousands of people blocking abortion centers everyday and fighting in the streets to save the children’s lives.

Mobs would be stringing up abortion doctors on every corner to send the signal that abortion is murder.

Just saying.
