Ive already written about how his isolationist garbage leads inexorably to nonsense like this, so let me just add two points. First, and most obviously, there is no U.S. occupation of Yemen or Nigeria. The only way the airline plot is a reaction to U.S. occupation is if you accept the jihadist premise that there are no Arab/Muslim nation-states but rather only one Islamic caliphate waiting to be born. Only in that way does the U.S. occupation of Iraq warrant a reprisal from, say, a Pakistani or Yemeni. And yet, needless to say, if Britain was attacked tomorrow and Obama pledged U.S. forces to assist in the reprisal, Paul would be the first guy to scream that we should scrupulously observe national boundaries and not go fighting another countrys battles for it.

Much the same reason Obama is president. Ron Paul is great on constitutional issues but then blows it by associating himself with nut cases ie 911 was an inside job.
This is a transcript I lifted from Michelle Malkin regarding Paul in which he stated Democrats would do a better job with investigatory oversight and further lending credence to the 9/11 truther movement and the “America had it coming” crowd:
“CALLER: I want a complete, impartial, and totally independent investigation of the events of September 11, 2001 . Im tired of this bogus garbage about terrorism. Ask Michael Meacher about how he feels about this bogus war on terrorism. Can you comment on that please?
HON. DR. RON PAUL: Well, that would be nice to have. Unfortunately, we dont have that in place. It will be a little bit better now with the Democrats now in charge of oversight. But you know, for top level policy theres not a whole lot of difference between the two policies so a real investigation isnt going to happen. But I think we have to keep pushing for it. And like you and others, we see the investigations that have been done so far as more or less cover-up and no real explanation of what went on.”
If Ron Paul had his way, we’d have whorehouses in every neighborhood, they’d sell heroin at 7-Elevens, and we would have NO ALLIES.
Okay all you Ron Paul idiots, come out of the woodwork to defend this.
Even a modest glance at history bears this out.
I used to somewhat respect Ron Paul. Now I’m not so sure. Actually I am sure. He’s an idiot. This proves it.
Islam has forever been at war with the West. And the East, as far as that goes.
If we were “occupiers” we’d have never told the first camel rider what an internal combustion engine is. No Muslim/Arab has ever invented a device to use the oil that they live on top of. There are no Arab built planes. There are no Arab built earth movers. There is very little Arab industry at all. They’d have no use for the oil if we hadn’t invented a use for it and then showed them how to use the machines that require oil.
All of that need not be said, however...you can distill the essence of the argument down to one question...what method has an Arab ever invented for recovering “their” oil? Right...none.
So if we were imperialist occupiers...we’d have simply just taken the oil...oil that had no use or no value to them...oil that was forever beyond the grasp of them, deep underground.
“Theyve just decided to turn their attention more on us...”
.
They know that the West is an easy and cowardly target that fights terrorism abroad at the expense of their brave troops but allows the free spread of it at home at the expense of the troops’ families and loved ones.
Egypt was one of the precious crown jewels of the Eastern-Roman Empire. More importantly, Egypt was also the breadbasket of Rome first and of then Constantinople.
It was a fertile land that produced and exported wheat, corn, wine, oil, textiles, glass, cosmetics, and medicinal and chemical products of the time. The population of Egypt made up of Christian Copts was estimated to have been about 9 millions at the time the Arab aggression in 641.
The persecuted Copts were the original inhabitants. Egypt, before the Islamic invasion was not an Arab country.
yo Ron Paul, why did they attack us on 9-11 then? since we didn’t invade till afterwards.
I tend to like Paul, but this is an area where he is dead wrong. Especially in this instance.
We weren’t “occupying” anything when we were hit on 911, and many other times. Terrorism and conflicts in THEIR region drew us into the Middle East. One can debate the merits of whether or not we should intervene in that part of the world, but “occupiers” we are not.
The war between Islam and US is a culmination of events from the founding of Isreal with US backing, supporting Arab monarchies against Arab nationalist governments, later supporting nationalistic Arab regimes which became corrupt against the average Arab on the street in order to counter Islamic fundamentalism and the NATURE of Islamic fundamentalism. Would the US have conflict with Islam if we did not back the founding of Israel, would the US have a conflict with Islam as we got involve in defending our oil source against the Soviets in the Cold War and later Islamic fundamentalist Iran, etc, etc. I think we will still have conflict but at a different scale and intensity. Lesson from this conflict is when the US tries to get involve with regional and internal affairs of other nations, we risk reaping what we sow. HOWEVER I DO NOT AGREE WITH PAULBOTS THAT THE SOLUTION IS TO SAY WE ARE SORRY AND JUST WALK AWAY. I think the anger in the Arab street is to the point that they will not accept sorry and view such act as weakness and it will only embolden them to come after us. At this point we have no choice but fight. When this war on terrorism is finally won or over, we as Americans need to evaluate the notion that we need to be like everyone else before us, that we need to be an “empire” in order to prove we are a superpower. Suffering and injustice is the way of the world outside of our borders, and there is not much we can do about it. The US is blessed with two oceans, no major superpower on our borders, plenty of resources, and a unique American notion of liberty to concentrate on building a great nation and standard of living based on noninterferrence and trade.
Actually, it’s R-U-N Paul (because he advocates running away from the world).
Shaddap, Ron, you dummy.
so lets do away with voting!! That’ll increase our security
McCartney?
More importantly, why did they attack us in 1993? Why did they attack the U.S. Embassies in Africa? Why did they attack the U.S.S. Cole? Why did they bring down the U.S. airliner over Lockerby? Why did they hijack the Achille Laurel? Why did they take hostage the 1972 Israeli Olympic athletes? Why did they blow up the Kobar Towers? Need we go on? This is not a war about occupation. This is a war about ideology. These people want to and are proceeding with plans to dominate the entire globe.
It sucks, because I can listen to what Ron Paul has to say and agree with so much of it. His views generally on government and it’s place in people’s lives and the restrictions on it’s power are exactly what I would love to hear from every politician.
And then, he says something (usually related to foreign policy) so idiotic that it negates everything else.
