GOP U.S. Senate candidate Scott Brown has been all but abandoned by the same national Republican committees that pumped hundreds of thousands in campaign cash to former governors Mitt Romney and William Weld

I will be voting for Scott Brown on January 19, 2009, whatever the outcome!
Well, the incumbent in 1978, when Tsongas won the Senate, was Brooke, a Republican. I’m not sure where Carter’s popularity was in November 1978, but the Iran hostage crisis hadn’t started and the gas crisis was 1979, gold hadn’t hit $850, stagflation hadn’t hit full force, etc. So, I’d say Carter’s popularity was probably not as low in 78 as it was in 79 or 80, but that’s just a guess.
Kennedy is a special case. Coakley isn’t Kennedy.
1996 might be instructive. Kerry beat Weld 52-44. That’s not a blowout. And in 1996 Clinton beat Dole in MA 61-28-9(Perot). That is a blowout. But Weld was a well known, popular governor. But Kerry was a 2 term incumbent. Brown is a near unknown (apparently). Coakley has a higher profile than Brown, but lower than Kerry. Brown has a lower profile than Weld. Kerry did far far worse than Clinton did in 1996.
I don’t know what Obama’s favorability rating is in Massachusetts. But Clinton beat Dole by 33 points. Is Obama at 66% favorability in MA right now? I would guess no. How about 62% favorability in MA right now? I would guess no.
I would guess 50 something.
The victory margin Clinton over Dole in 96 was 33 Kerry over Weld was 8. Clinton outperformed Kerry by 25% Can Brown do as well as Weld, in comparison to the incumbent Democrat President? If Obama is below 62%, and Brown does as well as Weld, Brown wins. I’m guessing Obama is below 62%. So, if Brown does as well as Weld, Brown would win.
Based on all that, Brown could win.
The Joe Kennedy that’s on the ballot is not a “real” Kennedy.
Just a coincidence.
Second issue is, if he is so proud of Massachusetts universal health care, I do not trust him to vote against national health care.
Granted he is somewhat better than Coakley; sort of like McCain would have been somewhat better than Obama.
Was this before the centerfold matter came to light? Or is the GOP just not sold on ever making a MA breakthrough?
Possible explanation: John Cornyn is hibernating AGAIN!
Maybe, maybe not. If it gets really changed in the house it may have to go the full route again.
I'm in MA, I protested first with the CT Tea Party so I want to get pinged on those lists and messages. I know more CT FReepers.
Most politicians up here are RINOs, and RNC seems to back RINOs lately, that's why I am curious why they aren't backing Brown.
I will bite my tongue and vote for him - yard sign and all. And I vowed never to 'do' a McLame again - here I go.....
“Remember what the ex KGB
agents have said they aimed for higher targets they already had the liberals they looked to subvert the right and republicans clearly they have been very successful.....”
BINGO!!!BINGO!! Too many good Americans still think we have a “two” party system. In the end..the RINO’s are just as happy with this “healthcare” bill as next time around its their turn to play with the goodies looted from flyover country. They’re not about to let Mr. Brown interfere with that in any way.
The Dem-Republican Good Cop-Bad Cop con routine is the longest running, most successful play of that con anywhere in the world. Congress has been its master since the mid-70’s. Its why we’re where we are today.
The real game is DC versus Flyover Country. It doesnt come to an end until all in Flyover Country finally get it. IMHO, they are just starting to wake up.
That’s why in politics we can never say “never”. The same people critical of John Cornyn’s poor performance in 2009 will be voting for him AGAIN in 2014, by which time he will probably lose to a resurgent Texas “democracy”. Too many of his original supporters won’t bother to save him.
Still though, you can expect Scott Brown to poll more than the proverbial 39 percent.
Agree with you 100% about doing right by your son. I’m in the same position; my son is almost 13. Come summer 2015, I am so out of Ohio. Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma are all getting a look...
So when to we do it?
How did the last tea party marches get started?
I have been suggesting this for months- a conservative march on GOP headquarters would probably even make the liberal news media cover it
o’h I know, I live in MA.
have a brother in Texas and a sister in Las Vegas. I’d much rather go to Texas!
I have a sister in Las Vegas (Henderson) too. She wants out, but can’t leave her job.
My sister lives in Henderson too. Wait a minute, we’re not related are we?! She has her own little clan out there. Two daughters, two son-in laws and wonderful grandchildren.
My sister just got the empty nest thing going; she’s divorced and has one son who’s at the University of Houston.
btt
No, as far as I have read and understand they will still need 60 once a bill is combined and gets out of committee. There has been talk that Pelosi may waive the rules yet again and send it right to the floor instead of to committee as the rules require, but the Senate will still need 60 votes.
I realize all you say about RINO’s, but as has been said before, this is the NE, and MA at that. Just to have an “R” replace a Kennedy would send a great message to all in Congress. We take what we can get.
