Key security agencies lack permanent leaders
Associated Press ^ | December 29, 2009 | Eileen Sullivan

Snips:

Two federal agencies charged with keeping potential terrorists off airplanes and out of the country have been without their top leaders for nearly a year. It took the Obama administration more than eight months to nominate anyone to lead the Transportation Security Administration and the Customs and Border Protection agency. Bogged down with health care reform, the Senate has yet to set a date to hold hearings for the Customs position. And Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., has placed a hold on the president's choice to head the TSA over the senator's concern that the new leader would let TSA screeners join a labor union. This has some Democrats blaming politics for the vacancy.

I didn’t know DeMint had that much power.

These appointments probably require a real vetting by the FBI, and none of 0b0z0’s thugs can pass a real vetting.

If Janet and Timothy are examples of political appointees, vacancies are not a bad thing.

I’m starting to like DeMint a lot.

The agencies still function even without the titular political appointee at the top who doesn’t know what they do anyway. Janet Napolitano is a perfect example. The agencies might even function better with some technocrat running the show.

Every department malfunctioned...State Department, Homeland Security, TSA...The only ones who didn't fail us were God and the brave people on that plane!!

Lots to be thankful for that day!!

SEIU? Dual (and conflicting loyalties?)

Obama was never vetted, we just had the word of the DNC, so here we are today.

IMHO the agencies would no doubt run better with Joe the Plumber or any of the many astute FReepers on FR were they given the task. Doubtful any would do worse than Napolitano (and other appointees) have exhibited.

The administration of common sense and "reasonable" solutions to our nation's problems appears to be of limited supply in regard to most Obama appointees.

Millions of taxpayer dollars have been poured down the drain on frivolous stimulus porkbarrel projects while America's debt is ascending. Pelosi and Obama are quickly descending in poll numbers and dragging our nation into a spiral from which we will be hard pressed to ever recover.

Here's an editorial by a flaming liberal who is (like most other Americans at this point in time) furious with Obama:

Language warning:

The regressive antidote

They want us to buy into big government and pay until we have mere pennies on the dollar left for ourselves when WE are the ones taking care of ourselves while THEY have massively overstaffed and overpaid hierarchy tweaking the benefit of doing nothing (except when forced to do so as an after-effect when something goes wrong) but giving us the impression they are "there for us."

No argument about THAT! In fact, most of his appointee' positions should have been left unfilled, he'd have more credibility than to have such vile, near (if not actual) criminal people at his beck and call. Tax cheats of the magnamity of Timothy would not easily find jobs in the real world of reputable companies. Janet's tenure as Governor of Arizona was wrought with heated controversy and can be seen via search engine.

Thankfully he prevented Obama from possibly appointing someone worse than Napolitano (if that is possible).

No it would be NTEU or AFGE most likely the former.

“Could Obama?” pass vetting for a top secret clearance.

Not when I was in the service.

When I was in the Navy, Ob0z0 would have been not allowed to be in the Navy with his drug useage, lack of documentation of colleges and work history.

Remember back when the description for a CT was just a couple sentences that sounded pretty good but told you nothing and the councilor who reviewed your test scores and record said 'try this'?

A BI takes anywhere from 6 mos to a year, depending on the number of moves and residences on your profile. My father was career Navy, so I had a lot. Young Barry only had a few before he turned 18 and NIS or FBI would have dropped him from consideration early on.
