Buchanan Wishes 'Merry Christmas' To Journo With 'Deep-seated Contempt For White Gentile Culture'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Quite the culture war on Morning Joe today . . . The combatants were Pat Buchanan and Spencer Ackerman of the lefty Washington Independent. The topic was the treatment of Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab. Buchanan wanted the budding terrorist classified as an enemy combatant in order to extract the maximum amount of information from him. Ackerman, in ACLU mode, favored having young Umar tried in federal court and given all rights extended to US criminal defendants.

My antennae went up when at the end of their debate, Buchanan saw Ackerman off by wishing him "Merry Christmas." A bit of Googling reveals that Ackerman, who describes himself as a "very short Jew," has recently written of his "deep-seated contempt for white gentile culture."

Speaking personally as a Jew, let me say that I'm always pleased to be wished Merry Christmas and regret the Season-Greetings-ization of our culture. Watch Pat in the video: there's nothing malicious in his tone; his greetings are given with a twinkle and a smile. But I can't help but wonder whether Pat meant his wishes [coming four days after the 25th and addressed to someone he probably knew or assumed to be Jewish] as something of a good-natured jibe.

He is not a criminal. He is a islamic terrorist war criminal who should be tried and then executed by firing squad and televised throughout the world.

As I posted on a thread yesterday:

If I ran the world he'd be held here, interrogated here, executed here and buried here.

I hope so.

It's way past time to shove back at these pukes!!

Ackerman should also be imprisoned for the duration of the war.

I was watching the same show. I think Buchanan got a real kick out of this. But not in a malicious way.

“I think Buchanan got a real kick out of this. But not in a malicious way.”

That’s also how I saw it.

"As a Jew with a deep love for White Gentile culture, and a deep-seated contempt for Jews-In-Name-Only like Ackerman, I say to Pat Buchanan: Merry Christmas."

As an Orthodox Jew, I second your statement with enthusiasm.

Me too, but I’m OK with it.

I don't see how it is the rule of law to treat non-citizens as citizens; there is a legal distinction between the two. Further, there has always been a distinction between enemy soldiers in uniform and those not in uniform. It is permissible to treat enemy soldiers that are out of uniform as spies and to execute them on the spot.

People should remember that in the west (to include America, Europe, Israel) uniforms are worn in order to protect civilians. When you put a uniform on, you put a target on your back. It's not “smart,” but it is civilized. It is a way of saying: “Don't shoot this man or this woman. They are not wearing a uniform. They are not soldiers. I am.” Those who fight in civilian attire forfeit any rights they might otherwise have.

In Arab countries, uniforms are worn on the parade ground, but are often discarded in war. This is barbaric. It is cowardly and it is often done with the hope of inviting reprisals against civilians. Suicide bombers are barbaric in their intentional efforts to kill civilians. Their actions cannot be defended.

The press never reported adequately on the Al Qaeda torture facilities found in Baghdad. They had manuals and equipment to poke out an eye, or to use an acetylene torch to burn flesh. That was torture, not interrogation. They did not necessarily want information. They wanted to give pain and instill fear among all. Our interrogators pursue, and usually get, valid information. We do so in a way that minimizes pain and damage. Our interrogators save lives without doing permanent damage. Their torturers kill and maim to instill fear. The practices differ because the intentions differ. It is appropriate to use different words. Telling the truth involves speaking clearly. They torture; we interrogate.

No question, at least in my mind, Pat was sending out his typical zinger.

Yep...as another Jew checking in, I agree. I do NOT think Pat would have said that to, say, David Horowitz.

I'm no Buchanan fan, believe me, but I wouldn't have a problem if he DID say it to Horowitz.

In this case, though, it may have been a little jibe.

The left always uses that line that we never learned good information from interrogation. We wouldn't have deciphered the Enigma machine during WWII.

At the very least that interrogation shortened the war by at least two years. I would say we would have had a stalemate with the Nazi's when they developed nuclear weapons.
