Montana Senator Max Baucus, who led the Democrats' health care reform legislation through the Senate last week, is responding to accusations that he was intoxicated while delivering a speech on the Senate floor.
Video of the speech posted to YouTube over the weekend shows Baucus appearing to slur some of his words and repeating himself at times.
Baucus' spokesman Tyler Matsdorf released a statement on Monday refuting claims that the Senator was drunk, calling it an 'untrue personal smear Internet rumor.' Matsdorf said, "This is beyond the pale and this type of gutter politics has no place in the public sphere. It is this type of slander that makes Montanans, and Americans, disgusted with the politics as usual in Washington. And what is even more sad is that such a personal attack would be given any validity at all, let alone being elevated to the status of news."
Former Florida Republican Rep. Mark Foley posted a video clip of Baucus' speech on his Facebook page on Sunday, and wrote: "breathalyser for members of congress."
We're using the Democrats Saul Alinsky tactics against them now: Rule #5: "Ridicule is mans most potent weapon."
How does it feel, Max?
Well, what WAS he if not drunk?
It’s a raucous Baucus caucus!
I am sure the senocrat (see second #47) was just overwhelmed with emotion, etc.
Looks like it took about five days for him and his staff to decide how to handle it. Outraged denial was definitely one way to go, but it’s easier to take seriously when it doesn’t take a week to get there.
Well, he was obviously impaired. Maybe not with booze. Perhaps it was pills. But the guy was definitely high.
Drunk, stupid, retarded... whatever the outcome is the same with the fisters. How can anyone with half a brain support Menglecare?
And the democrats cry, "Do not mauc us!"
He’s a democrap...if he speaks, he lies.
I shertanly was not drrrunk. I swear I just I just I just had a couple of drinks ossifer.
B’sides, what the heck else CAN he do? Say, “Yeah, I was totally wasted.”
Perhaps “stoned” would be a better term to use then?
We need a breathalyzer result ~ otherwise I’ll accept that the man was quite obviously drunk.
I guess we didn’t see what we saw.
Combine this with Napolitano saying that no homeland security director would say what she said, and I think the next thing we’ll hear is that we were always at war with Oceana and Obama always insisted that the health care takeover was going to be expensive.
I watched. I decided.
I have this image in my head of Max the Capital Drunk stepping down from the podium and locking himself in the tank where Harry “Barney Fife” Reid can keep an eye on him.
Drunk with power.
