John Thune considered "safe" for 2010 election

For John Thune, 2010 looks like a good year to run for re-election.

For Tim Johnson, it looks like a good year not to.

Thune, the first-term Senate Republican from South Dakota, showed well in a statewide sampling of voters that offered more troubling results for Johnson.

Thune’s job approval rating of 57 percent is particularly strong when compared to the 28 percent and 31 percent approval ratings for Democrats and Republicans in Congress overall, respectively.

You have the right idea. Is there a Thune ping list?

Even though some of them are trying to do a good job this is the biggest problem we have to overcome in getting the entrenched idiots out of office.

Everyone hates this congress and wants them all kicked out... but not the guy from their district. Except for a few real class A idiots every single congresscritter and Senacreature polls better at home than the combined grade they get when put all together.

I voted for Steve Buyer and will do so again, Mike Pence is also someone from Indiana I would want to go back. I guess I am as big a part of the problem as the next guy, but I will throw Luger under the bus this primary so fast he'll get road rash.

"President Thune and vice-president Cantor!"

or....President DeMint and Vice President Thune, or vice versa...or Barbour, or VP Jindal, or VP Pence. Everyday, the prospective field grows more robust.

I'm in a neighboring state, but I really thought Lugar was going to vote for the HC bill. You could tell he really wanted to. If Collins or Snowe would have bolted, Lugar would have been close behind.

The great thing is...all of those people are WAY better solid conservatives than the majority of the guys in 08.

If Rubio runs he can also run for President or VP...the Dems can’t say he doesn’t have enough experience

Lugar is an embarrassment to all Hoosiers now. There was a time when he did a decent job, but his politics have changed since Bush was elected, and he is going downhill faster and faster. The local county head of the republican party is actively campaigning here to get him taken out next primary, and don’t even get me going on that idiot Milquetoast Bayh...

Let’s hope so. I believe the true conservative candidate for 2012 has yet to emerge - probably a relatively unknown. I’m still pulling for DeMint.

Latest attempt to divert attention away from Sarah Palin I see. I can't help but think the establishment thinks just because of his South Dakotan and "Christian" credentials, he can somehow deflect Palin's momentum.

I don’t want to judge Thune, perhaps he’s not an establishment darling. From what I’ve learned of him, he seems decent. I think he shows poise and a sense of principle. He identifies himself as a committed Christian and even went to a Christian college. Interesting.

That being said, from what I’ve SEEN of him in interviews/speeches and the like, he doesn’t strike me as someone who can have the mass appeal of Palin and bring on the energy she inspires. The kind of energy necessary not just to actually WIN elections, but to push through a substantial agenda WHILE in office. She's already proven her executive ability on a small scale, Thune on the other hand is a senator with nothing that impressive to show for it.

*sigh* I should fast from political speculation of the presidency for at least another year and just entrust everything to God and keep praying for Sarah! GOD is in control. May HIS will be done. Our country needs righteous leaders so badly right now.

I think Palin has shown herself to be a creative, bold, dynamic leader who sets herself APART from the rest of the pack of other “qualified” leaders pretty dramatically.

It's ultimately GOD'S decision. We shall see what His plan for this country is and its government is.

We’ll see. Sarah has first, and possibly sole priority on my vote.
