He probably didn’t have any explosives on him, and probably in fact didn’t do anything that could really be qualified as a threat; but it’s no coincidence that he did this.
I think they were probably just trying to find out how vigilant we were (not very - he boarded without luggage, too) and what the response would be (not much, since if he really had had a bomb, that plane would be smithereens by now).
