Man on Flight to Detroit Claims al Qaeda Ties; Father Warned U.S. Officials
WASHINGTON -- The U.S. has "no indication" that an attempted bombing of a Northwest Airlines flight was part of a larger plot by a terrorist group, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said.
"Right now we have no indication that it is part of anything larger, but obviously the investigation continues," she said on CNN's "State of the Union" program on Sunday.
A 23-year-old Nigerian man, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, was charged on Saturday with trying to blow up a Detroit-bound Northwest airliner on Christmas Day. Passengers said the suspect apparently set off a device strapped to his body as the plane was approaching the Detroit airport, causing a small fire that was quickly put out by passengers and crew.
The suspect claimed connections with al Qaeda, officials said, but the formal charges don't mention the terrorist network.

It always amazes me that the FBI has information at their fingertips. I think it was 2 days after 9-11 that we pretty much knew “stories” of the 19 men.

“President Obama made only a vague reference to the size of the al Qaeda presence in his speech at West Point, when he said, “al Qaeda has not reemerged in Afghanistan in the same number as before 9/11, but they retain their safe havens along the border.”
Zero certainly is playing down the threats emerging.

In any event there was at least one other person involved and that's the guy who presented him to the ticket agent. And the whole thing is complicated by the fact the flight originated in Amsterdam. I doubt we have the ability to check up on things there as we did the 9/11 events.
I see this event as having the potential to be very troublesome for Obama et al. We came within a split second of having the first major terrorist success on American soil since 9/11. The only thing that saved those 300 people was the failure of the device. The failure had absolutely NOTHING to do with our system that is supposed to protect us from such occurrences.
I’m afraid these are little dummies are just distractions..and there’s something bigger in the works...I sure hope not and am praying for God to protect us.
Which is why the second incident, same flight number, will be just a "sick Nigerian", who locked himself in the can for an hour.
Of course I would not be displeased it his sickness turns out to be a skull bashed in by passengers wielding seat belt extensions.
