Biggest Losers: Where Americans Aren't Moving
CNN via Yahoo ^ | 12/24/2009 | staff

1. California

Net loss: 98,798 residents

For years more people have fled the Golden State than have arrived. In the year ended July 1, California was the country's biggest loser, with nearly 100,000 more residents leaving than moving in.

Still, that was an improvement over earlier losses: In 2006 the net decline was 313,081.

2. New York

Net loss: 98,178 residents

Like California, New York is, historically, a major exporter of it citizens. The state depends upon foreign migration for its population growth. But also like California, New York's out-migration eased in the year ended July 1.

In 2006, nearly a quarter million more people left the state than moved in, two and a half times the 2009 total.

Still, New York is the decade's biggest loser: The state a total of 1,686,583 residents, more than anywhere else.

3. Michigan

Net loss: 87,339 residents

Not only is Michigan third highest in the nation for net migration losses, it also has this dubious distinction: 0.88% of the Great Lakes State's nearly 10 million residents left last year, the highest ratio in the nation.

The big problem, of course, is the ailing auto industry. Michigan's unemployment rate was the highest in the county in November, at 14.7%.

4. Illinois

Net loss: 48,249 residents

Residents leaving to seek work elsewhere and other migrants out-totaled those who moved in by nearly 50,000. That represents a steady, continuing pattern for Illinois: Net losses have prevailed throughout the decade. The difference between in-migrants and out peaked in 2006 at near 85,000.

5. Ohio

Net loss: 36,278 residents

Ohio is another Rust Belt state going through economic turmoil, much of it tied to the auto industry. More than 368,000 have left the state than moved in during the last decade.

Sadly, we all lose when Californians move out of their state. Especially sparsely populated rural states.

Yes, I know there are many good Californians. That doesn't change the fact that your state is a socialist monster.

Happy to be a part of New York’s statistic.

The problem is, WHERE they are moving to....bringing with them a lifetime of liberal indoctrination and lifestyle, then trying to "change things" at their destination to be "more like home".

I've seen it hundreds of times down South. They move in and immediately start bitching about the way we live down here, and want to change it to suit them.

They don't get it that IF we wanted to live they way they want, we would've moved UP THERE a long time ago...but we don't.

Liberals are like cockroaches, they move to whereever the food supply is, consume it, and then move to the next pile.

There’s a real pattern of California limosuine-liberals moving into rural towns, buying everything, making it prohibitively expensive to live there, and making things so miserable that the locals all leave. Boulder, CO and Park City, UT are good examples of this. People think that small town inhabitants in New Hampshire and other places are weird and xenophobic. Not true, they’ve seen what happens when Californians invade their towns and run off the locals and they take a lot of steps to make sure it doesn’t happen to them.

A lot of Californians moved to neighboring Rocky Mountain states, which showed up in the 2008 election results.

Let’s give the liberals one state - say, North Dakota. They can go there, institute free health care, housing, food, and automobiles; no guns, no-profit companies, no carbon footprint (trading not allowed - in other words, no carbon footprint whatsoever), full retirement benefits from the government, minimum wage of $100 per hour...you get the picture. That would be fun to watch! (My apologies to all North Dakotans. I lived there three years.)

MICHIGAN - "The big problem, of course, is the ailing auto industry. Michigan's unemployment rate was the highest in the county in November, at 14.7%."

Yes, of course the root cause of the problem is the auto industry.

Perhaps an inquiring reporter might ask why the auto industry is ailing?

bringing with them a lifetime of liberal indoctrination and lifestyle, then trying to "change things" at their destination to be "more like home".

They're a lot like the illegal aliens. They move in somewhere and try to make it just like the unlivable place they just fled from.

Being from Jackson, WY (I was born there in the early 1970s and lived there until I graduated high school). It was a great little town back then but now it's just a disgusting liberal hive disguising itself as a tourist destination. I hope the Yellowstone volcano blows while there's a big liberal celebrity/politician event in town.

The world has had several liberal socialist utopian states such as you describe (NoKo, East Germany, China, USSR, etc). Why can’t they just move there where all the infrastructure and systems they need are already in place?

Another thing California limousine liberals love is their cheap Mexican labor. So under the guise of compassion they let Mexico offload their bottom-feeders here so they can use and abuse them. And when and area turns into a barrio they just move away and start over again. Anyone who actually thinks these people give a damn about minorities is smoking crack.

A lot of the Californian’s leaving are the conservatives.
But, people just notice the liberals more easily. Remember a lot of CA people are just second generation. Their folks moved from the Midwest and South during the WWII and the boom years. Now their kids can’t afford to stay or are retiring elsewhere.
What we are gaining in CA is illegals, children of illegals and other foreign immigrants. Our friends kids go to a preK public school that is 80% Asian..nevermind the schools that are 80% Hispanic.
These people will vote Rat and the state will be in worse shape 5 years from now than today. These immigrant kids are expensive to educate. They are abosorbing all the education funds( and more kids are going to private schools). We are in deep dodo here..of the Rat variety.

The numbers for CA would be much worse if the numbers only included citizens.

These numbers are not the whole story. Here’s the numbers on a population basis on the number leaving per 10,000 people in the population:

CA 27 per 10K people
NY 50 per 10K people
MI 87 per 10K people
IL 37 per 10K people
OH 31 per 10K people

Clearly the most disgusting state in which to live is New York, based on the rate of escape being the highest.

Of course this started happening in Maine about 20-25 years ago. Millionaries from the dot.com boom started buying ocean front property or property in towns like Blue Hill, Bar Harbor, Castine, Camden, and Rockland-locals could no longer afford to live in these towns.

The state became far more liberal even left-wing.
Old like Democrats like Ken Curtis and the late Ed Muskie
were replaced by moonbats like Pingree, District 1 congress critter.

Our problem as conservatives at least for the time being: the choice between Rhinos like Snow and Collins or out and out far left moonbats like Pingree.

Here’s the lifestyle tension in a nutshell: big city Starbucks people move to rural Winchells areas and they bring the Starbucks ethos with them. They just can’t wait to “fix” the coarse hick locals with their sensitive liberal efforts. They see plaid flannel and want to change it to Patagonia. This happens all over America.
