Security Breach at Hospital Holding Terror Suspect; Reporter Gets Within Feet of Bedridden Bomber

The Obama administration will have a lot to answer for after its bumbling federal law enforcement agency allowed a reporter to get close enough to the hospital bed of terror suspect Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab to have killed him if that was his intent.

Abdulmutallab is being held by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency after he was badly burned in a reported failed attempt to blow up Northwest flight 253 on its approach to Detroit from Amsterdam yesterday.

The Wall Street Journal reported the incident in an article published here:

On Saturday morning, the suspect appeared to be sleeping when a reporter approached his corner room in the burn center at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor.

Down the hall, other patients were resting in rooms decorated with garland and tinsel for Christmas. A few visitors moved about freely.

The suspect's room was darkened and he lay motionless in bed. His head, with close-cropped hair, was turned away from the door.

Two uniformed customs and border-patrol officers were seated outside the open door and other security officials and hospital staffers were gathered in a nearby conference room.

When the reporter identified himself, a man in a suit and tie said the area was "secured" and ordered the reporter to leave immediately. The man declined to identify himself and he and one of the uniformed guards escorted the reporter to a hospital waiting area. Moments later the man in the suit returned with a hospital security guard, who told the reporter to leave the hospital grounds.

Anyone who has seen the first Godfather movie knows this type of incident is probable and preventable.

Outside of a hospital setting, the infamous deadly shooting of President Kennedy assassin Jack Ruby while in police custody in Dallas is burned in to the nation's conscience--but apparently not the Obama administration.

"University off Michigan Medical Center"

Anybody else hacked of that this MUSLIM TERRORIST S.O.B. is being treated -- at our expense -- at a PREMIER medical facility, 2 days after our feckless leaders bestow upon us the promise of healthcare that will be far inferior to Medicare? (and that WE will have to pay for...)

It's been reported that the passengers were kept on the aircraft after it landed and was stationary in a remote section of the airport.

If this is true this is nuts. When there is/hasbeen a fire on the aircraft, you get off of it at the first opportunity. Secure the pax if you wish but get them away from the airplane. -386wt (and old pilot)

Since the Muslim Messiah occupant of our White House was elected, everything seems to be turning into feces in this country. Wonder when the stench will wake people up? Add to that the stench coming out of our government and you end up with a sewer.

re: This is a non-story

Thank you! That was my take after reading it, but I thought surely I had missed something, that there was more to the story than what you have described.

Journalism has certainly suffered of late.

It’s a shame that the passengers on that plane didn’t think to just snap the neck of that scumbag terrorist and instead of investigators sifting through ‘evidence’, they could have just left the whole kit and kaboodle to the local coroner.

Should be plan "A" for everyone encountering a jihadi POS. Rabid dogs need killing.

His burns could be useful in extracting information from him.. if that isn't too harsh. Might make us look like the bad guys.

The person got close enough to be able to carry out a hit on the suspect. That's the main story.

This is another example of lax security under the Obama administration. That's the other part of the story.

Obama needs to go. Let him buy his house in Hawaii and let him stay there.

Yes, the plane was taken to a remote part of the airport. Someone driving by this area took pictures of the plane. He said he never sees planes parked in this area. The picture shows the plane surrounded by police and fire equipment, all passengers still on board.

From further down the blog:

Abdulmutallab, also named elsewhere as Mutallab, is believed to have boarded KLM Flight 588 in Lagos, Nigeria bound for Amsterdam. There he connected to Northwest Airlines 253, heading for Detroit in an Airbus A330 bearing the colours of the airline's new owner, Delta.

~~~
Airports in Nigeria do not typically conduct tests for explosive residue on passengers’ carry-on baggage and shoes. However, a spokesman for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria said the airport in Lagos had cleared a US Transportation Security Administration audit in November.
Ohh, that's wonderful.
The Nigerian airport has all its' paperwork in order. Again, all show and no substance.
And we should be concerned why?????
Lynne Stewart was a lawyer. She passed intel between the blind cleric and his terror cell.
Who say's this reporter intended harm to the terrorist son of a whore? The reporter might have been a messenger.
No it is not fishy. It is political correctness and diversity. The people who check for these things are under orders to not examine certain individual too closely. This goes back to at least 2004. I know this because what I went through the last time I flew.
