Catholic Group Supports Senate on Abortion Aid

By DAVID D. KIRKPATRICK December 25, 2009 WASHINGTON — In an apparent split with Roman Catholic bishops over the abortion-financing provisions of the proposed health care overhaul, the nation’s Catholic hospitals have signaled that they back the Senate’s compromise on the issue, raising hopes of breaking an impasse in Congress and stirring controversy within the church.

The Senate bill, approved Thursday morning, allows any state to bar the use of federal subsidies for insurance plans that cover abortion and requires insurers in other states to divide subsidy money into separate accounts so that only dollars from private premiums would be used to pay for abortions.

Just days before the bill passed, the Catholic Health Association, which represents hundreds of Catholic hospitals across the country, said in a statement that it was “encouraged” and “increasingly confident” that such a compromise “can achieve the objective of no federal funding for abortion.” An umbrella group for nuns followed its lead.

The same day, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops called the proposed compromise “morally unacceptable.”

The "Catholic organization" is just another leftist from.

The Vatican clearly opposes abortion and the Bishops promised Obama that they would close the thousands of Catholic hospitals around the country if they were forced to perform abortions.

This is another example of why the Pope is so necessary in having the final say to the almost 250,000 Catholic churches in the world.

These fly by night organizations are not ordained or sanctioned by the Pope or the Bishops.

Murder of the unborn is NEVER morally acceptable. There can be no compromise or other mealy mouthed talk around and about the subject, IMO. Compromise is a word used by Democrats to get you to help them to get their way sooner or later.

Catholic hospitals have become more and more like any other hospital. So if there is a choice, we might as well go to the secular hospital. You can still have your priest visit there.

By coming out early for the Senate’s version of this atrocious bill (it’s not a health reform bill), they probably cemented the right to use federal funds for abortion.
