No problem on the typos, I still haven't mastered the english language yet. Guess that comes from my hillbilly roots.

PETN? What's that?

On another thread, Fivecatsandadog advised that there’s not much density around Detroit Metro. A DC-9 flying out of there crashed just after takeoff and only killed 2 people on the ground, even though the crash killed 154 passengers and broke the plane up so badly that only the flight recorders were of any use in the investigation.

But then, the spectacle of a crash on Christmas with hundreds of deaths would be more than enough for Al Qaida’s purposes.

Wish I knew. Taking anything from CBS Radio News with a grain of salt.

As csvset points out, Al Qaida is “wedded to the spectacular.” Their dream was to make 10 or more planes disappear at once over the ocean. But what if they believe they can’t pull off a plot of that scale at this point without getting caught, and they figure they can only risk taking out one at a time? One plane disappearing is certainly bad, but one going down on Christmas with plenty of news footage of burning wreckage...that would be the spectacle they’re looking for.

The area around Metro is industral, also the flight in 1987, the flight crew forgot to set the flaps, didn’t get very far, IIRC, hit a lightpole.

Also your right, they wouldn’t have cared if the flight killed anyone on the ground, it just would have been a plus.

PETN=Pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN, also known as corpent, pentrite, or rarely and primarily in German as nitropenta or pentrit)[1], is one of the most powerful high explosives known, with a relative effectiveness factor (R.E. factor) of 1.66.

So now all pants come off as well as shoes?

PROFILE !! YOU DAMN STUPID BASTARDS!

Just to get things straight, let's review...

Humayun Saqib Muazzam Khan
Born United Arab Emirates
Pakistani heritage

NOT Terrorist... told his men to "hit the dirt" and stopped suicide bombers himself

John Phillip Walker Lindh
Born in USA (Washington, DC)
Baptized (Roman Catholic Church)
Raised in USA (Maryland and California)

BAD GUY!
Joined the Taliban

Ayman Abdelrahman Taha
Sudanese-born, son of Abdel Rahman and Amal Ali Taha

GOOD Guy... US Special Forces, doctoral candidate UMass.

Richard C. Reid
British citizen, born in south London
British mother, Jamaican father

TERRORIST
Pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN) [same high-explosive reported for this incident, a type favored by many terrorist instructors] with a triacetone triperoxide (TATP) detonator was found in his shoe after was caught trying to blow up the plane he was on. (BTW, repetition of methods/targets from failed attempts is common--perhaps the current suspect is truly associated with al Qaeda.)

Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan
Son of Feroze Khan

NOT Terrorist...

Age 14 on 9/11
Enlisted immediately after high-school graduation, wanting to show that Muslims aren't all fanatics.

Here's a tough one...
"James Michael Ahearn"

Watch out...trick question, with that Irish name...

But... Muslim!
And another of our fallen.

So while these examples might make it seem like you can profile and find bad guys by looking for non-Muslim names and appearances, it turns out that a small fraction of Muslims actually are terrorists, believe it or not, and some non-Muslims actually aren't!

Maybe anyone not under a white marble headstone should be suspect, eh? After all, you don't know who might have swapped-out that little old lady's carry-on (or slipped something into it) while she was waiting...it might have been someone with a British name, like John Gilbert Graham!

Look at this guy from Denver!
Would there have been debris scattered east of Longmont if only they had profiled and checked his mother's luggage?!?

IOW, profiling doesn't mean "no further restrictions."

Maybe it actually was officially Jack Gilbert Graham, not just a nickname.

When the 'profile' is also the description of the perps in so many egregious cases, it is prudent to PROFILE.

Did you miss the "extremist" part of

d. Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 and 40
?

Even Wikipedia portrays John Phillip Walker Lindh as abnormal (read "extremeist in training"), and specdifically notes that he was NOT raised a Catholic. (also note his disjointed, "self-directed", truncated education and the fact that his homo father was absent for estended periods of time to live with a Rump Ranger in San Francisco. He converted to Islam. He trained to fight the US, - and you are portraying him as a normal American???

. . . Watch out...trick question, with that Irish name... . . .

Kinda like Obama, the Kilarney Kenyan ? ?

The rest of your 'review' is also seriously flawed, but I must go, my FRiend.

There are murderous terroists of every nation and creed.
There is lots more to say, but I'm out of time.

I don’t think anyone is going to doubt the service these brave men performed for the USA. And yes, there are home grown terrorists out there as well, but since the majority of the terrorists in the world ARE MUSLIM, then all MUSLIMS need to be profiled into the group of bad guys unless it can be proven otherwise. There’s just no other way of doing it.

IOW, profiling doesn't mean "no further restrictions."

And where did anyone suggest it did? As I said earlier, the 'El-Al' manner of vetting their travelers is something we should be undertaking here, now, and as skeptoid stated:

Until we see CAIR and the rest of the Islamist horde turning in the terrorists they so willingly support with lawyers and cash, then forgive me for saying they are ALL suspect until they themselves PROVE differently. I suggest you grab and read "A God Who Hates" by Wafa Sultan for a primer on basic attitudes.

The article about Jack Graham was fascinating. I didn’t recall hearing about that case back then. The report was so revealing of how well reporters reported the facts. I didn’t detect any political correctness in the article, and it reflected a lot of the culture of that era.

How about the time the airline pilot shot and killed the would-be skyjacker? Yes, it happened.

What I find most striking about old cases is how swiftly the death penalty was carried out. It could serve as a true deterrent back then.

Was it meant as incendiary, or a failure, I wonder. Richard Reid's was meant to be explosive, but it didn't succeed.

Just watched WXYZ TV, he had 40-60 grams of PENT in his underwear.

Guess what he he was trying to do under his pillow and blanket, first time I heard about the blanket.

From what the reporter said, he didn’t care, just smiled. Could have been doped up.

I was watching Fox News earlier and they said that if he had succeeded in lighting the PENT that, being seated above the center and wing fuel tanks , he could have exploded the plane.

Islam is still attacking our country and all the while our president is off playing golf and swimming at the beach instead of coming back to work to protect the country.
