Romulus, Mich. - A senior U.S. counterterror official says a passenger aboard a Delta Air Lines flight in Detroit was planning to blow up the plane but the explosive device failed.
The official said the passenger was being questioned Friday evening. It was not immediately clear why the passenger wanted to attack the flight that was arriving from Amsterdam

I know - stupid Fox - biggest story of the day and they have their pre-recorded junk on.
Went over to CNN (I know, gag) and they had a guy on who had actually interviewed several passengers on camera....and the CNN anchor (proudly - jabbing at Fox) said CNN would be on this story going forward tonight!
Wake up, Fox!
Apparently, we have conflicting reports about the no fly list. Some say he was on it, and others say he was not. Starting to sound CYA.
I heard that too! “extremist group”
But then he was interviewing a former Bush administration terrorist expert (woman) who DID use the term “Al Quaida”...take that CNN!
(and even though CNN is covering this - I had to cut it off).
How did he get on the plane???
Ask the idiots in Amsterdam that one. Let me guess. Skleton crew cause of Christmas and those running security were probably low on the totem pole and lacked experience.
Just my take....
A known terrorist, but not on the no-fly list....
Go figger.
Yes it does. I’ll have to go back and track down where I first read that little factoid...
I’ve cut off CNN since they won’t use the term “Al Quaida” in referring to the terrorist group this jihadist claims to be affiliated with.
So if anybody has any other news sources out there - please clue me in.
(Fox has their worthless Sunday night fare on)
Schipol is the second toughest security I’ve ever been through...
Who knows?
gotta backtrack the early report the guy WAS on our no fly list - and if so, my question is, does this mean people on the USA’s no fly list ARE allowed on international flights???
Or, if the perp is a KNOWN TERRORIST but is NOT on our no-fly list -—— what does that say about our once strong cooperation with other countries in our war on terror?
(I know, I know, that war is no longer reocognized since we have a terrorist sympthizer in the WH)
Oh that’s right!!!!
The color alerts have been vanquished to the land of ‘all things Bush are bad’ never to appear again.
I had no idea the alert had been raised, did you?
That Yemini Muslim was also involved with the 9/11 terrorists. In fact, he lived in San Diego for a wile and if my memory serves, he graduated from one of our colleges. Reportedly, he was killed in the bombing attack two or three days ago and you’re right, he is the same muslim who was in contact with the Ft. Hood terrorist.
One report said he wasn’t on the list because there was not enough information on him, which begs the question, what constitutes “enough?”
Nope - there has been zero - nada - reports of increased risk of terrorism - nothing made public at least.
(Thanks, Obamao administration)
OH - well if we got that Yemeni, I give praise to our military guys who obviously STILL know what they are doing and do it despite their coward in chief.
This is from the WSJ website - news article now linked here on FR:
“The suspect’s name didn’t appear on any terrorist watch lists maintained by U.S. authorities, he said, but it turned up “hot” in other terrorism-related databases maintained by intelligence officials.”
So what does that mean? Do we have the “smoke stack” problem back again??? Do we have a breakdown in communication among intelligence agencies either domestically or internationally and airports/airlines/security worldwide?
President Bush’s administration made that type of communication top priority and it seemed to work very well....but now we have a fellow muslim in office who thinks the war on terror is over and terrorism risks are myths.
We need the “epic fail” graphic here - against a stupidly naive or cowardly complicit Obama administration in terms of how this guy who was “hot” on some terrorist list somewhere - but still managed to get on that plane!
Well, as we continue to be cowed by CAIR and the other islamic groups that constantly cry foul....The powers that be are afraid to hurt the feelings of the people that only want to kill me and you.
Enough, I say.
Lifted from a CNN article posted here:
King is the Ranking Member on the House Homeland Security Committee.
Citing federal officials, MSNBC is also naming the suspect, but uses a more complete version:
“Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab”.
That name seem hard to miss on a no fly list!
Um, yes it is! (hard to miss)
I drove a friend to the airport yesterday morning. The flashing billboard along the access road still flashes “Alert Level Orange”.....
LOL.
NO, PLANNING is when you try to figure out HOW to blow it up, ATTEMPTING is when you TRY to blow one up. FU%$## LA Times
Is Homeland Security on vacation?
