because of the Senator DeMints objection, unless the House votes for the Senate bill unchanged which is highly unlikely (see below) then the Senate ObamaCare bill must be amended on the House floor to gain the votes they need to pass it on the House floor. And because of Senator DeMints objection to the appointment of the conferees, there will be no conference, or conference report.
If the House amends the Senate bill, they then have to send the amended bill back to the Senate where all the 60 vote margin cloture votes still apply cloture on the motion to proceed, and cloture to end the filibuster and cloture on any amendment.

Demint for President!
I don’t mean to be a wet blanket, but isn’t this only delaying the inevitable?
I’ll second that.
DeMint/Palin 2012
Thank you Senator DeMint
Ok, this appears to be good news for now; however, since the democrats continue to use every unethical, immoral and unconstitutional trick in the book to pass this evil legislation, will the forces of good be able to strangle this beast once and for all? I sadly think not; short of a miracle, which is what I’m praying for, regularly. Any constitutional (if it can still be applied) scholars out there that can give me a shred of human hope?
Delays will give us more time to drag it down.
BTTT!
“I dont mean to be a wet blanket, but isnt this only delaying the inevitable?”
Spoken like a real loser.
Thats not fair, hc passed in nov 2008
Hoping for a republican win in Massachusetts for Senator Kennedy’s old seat. Special election in January.
The reality is, the GOP don’t have enough power in Congress to stop a one float parade.
If the Senate votes on the House Bill, as is, won’t they only need 51 votes (simple majority) to pass it?
It depends on who blinks first.
The liberals in the House were more adament about the public option and abortion. The House is likely to put the public option back into the bill.
When the amended bill goes back to the Senate, then people who have been publicly humiliated (like Ben Nelson) will have to decide if they have no reputation left to salvage and will vote with the party in a last gesture of contempt at Nebraska before going down, of if they will try to regain their reputation by abandoning the liberal steamroller that is crushing Constitutional representive government.
Also, this buys time to see how the special Senate election in Massachusetts plays out; to see what happens with Lautenberg in NJ, which is getting a Republican governor in January; and see what happens with Byrd in WV (will he be too frail to vote?).
Lots of things can still happen.

Of course it’s fair. Defeatists should just STFU while others keep up the fight!
Perhaps, but when all else fails, play for time. This allows for the possibility of other things to occur.
Every day that the vote is delayed provides an opportunity for some Dem to decide that the poll numbers make this political suicide, and he aint gonna drink that KoolAid.
