STUPAK STATEMENT ON SENATE ABORTION LANGUAGE

[flag bar page separator]

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Menominee) issued the following statement regarding to the abortion language provisions in the Senate health care bill:

“While I appreciate the efforts of all the parties involved, especially Senator Ben Nelson, the Senate abortion language is not acceptable.  I will continue to work with my colleagues on this issue as the process moves forward.

A review of the Senate language indicates a dramatic shift in federal policy that would allow the federal government to subsidize insurance policies with abortion coverage.

Further, the segregation of funds to pay for abortion is another departure from current policy prohibiting federal subsidy of abortion coverage.

While I and many other pro-life Democratic House members wish to see health care coverage for all Americans, the proposed Senate language is unacceptable.  I look forward to working with members of the House, Senate and the Obama Administration to find common ground on this issue and draft language that guarantees continuation of current law of no public funding for abortion.

Earlier today an unauthorized email from a member of my staff was sent to interested parties.  I was unaware of this email and it was sent without my knowledge or approval.  The above statement reflects my position on the proposed Senate language.”

I did not see this posted. Stupak does not like the Senates Bill when it comes to abortion; yet he thanks Nelson.

Taking bets, how long before Stupak folds?

FYI - the unauthorized email he speaks of was the report Stupak was working with the GOP on killing the bill over abortion.

I’m placing my bets now, Stupak folds by next Tuesday.

nelson so opposed to killing a baby and then gets a nice bribe .
Now he’s not all that mad about killing babies.

If any lefty troll is reading this and does not like the language of killing babies then I suggest you go and see an ultrasound and tell me that it is not a baby in there when a supposed Doc will go in that womb and smash it’s skull/kill him/her

Well, he kind of thanks Nelson with the back of his hand.

“I appreciate all your efforts . . . [but] the abortion language is not acceptable.”

Or in other words, “Thanks for working so hard to mess it up!”

Stupak will fold just as soon as he gets his bribe money.

Stupak is thanking Nelson for showing him the way to get paid for selling out his vote.

Stupak is on record as saying that if his amendment didn't pass, he would vote yes on the final house bill anyway.

I think he is set to bargain with the devil in the same vain as Nelson.

He doesn’t have to fold. But most of the blue dogs will, enough to accept an conference report that includes Nelson’s ambiguous language

Dunno if he will fold. It’s not just Stupak in the House. There were almost 60 other House Democrats who goaded him into writing that amendment who voted for it. And Pence said today the gap between the language in the Senate Bill vs. the language of the House bill on Abortion is so wide that a reconciliation in conference is almost impossible. If it were that much a slam dunk they wouldn’t be talking about waiting until February to get something Final - they’d just do it all tomorrow - both chambers.

The Democrats with 1/10th of a brain fully understand that this bill is the Death Knell for them, electorally speaking. Not just because of the abortion issue, but because the more we find out about what’s actually IN the Senate bill the more it’s clear big chunks of it are wholly Unconstitutional. It’s a testament to the Republicans in BOTH chambers, who have shown an unyielding unity, and that alone has a lot of these people starting to get very nervous. This Health Care monstrosity is a Totally Democrat issue, one that anyone can hang around their necks alone. The longer they wait, the more we know this exterior bravado the Dimwitocrats keep trying to exude is nothing but a bunch of hot air. I say let them keep postponing; it shows how weak their hand really is. Which is total irony since they own all three branches of government at present. Think about that.

Apropos of nothing, I've been thinking about getting a card table, maybe an often-used one from a garage sale.

I never thought I could think any lower of Democrats as I do now.

In fact, I thought there was literally only one person in this world, who’ve I’ve never met and have no relationship with, who I can honestly say I hate - Susan Smith.

Then the fools and ACORN elected Obama.

Let them keep their bribes going.

Hopefully we can take back control in 2010 and appoint judges, Senators and Congresscritters who will actually read and follow the Constitution. If so, these bribes will make it easier to kill this bill.

I understand what you are saying and agree with you, the Dems are weak.

What bothers me is the stupidity of the average American voter and a media still in Obama’s back pocket. As this bill goes along the media has even more opportunity to tell people how this is all the GOP’s fault, giving cover to Obama and the Dems.

They believed in in 2008, we can’t have them belive it in 2010.
