The Medicare savings in the Senate health care bill was double-counted by Democrats and the legislation will increase the deficit -- not decrease it, a a senior Republican senator said Wednesday, citing a letter from the CBO's chief.

Creepy!
That’s likely true, but now they can’t stand there and claim “it’s deficit neutral or it’s going to REDUCE the deficit.”
Thanks to Senator Sessions the CBO says the democrats double counted the medicare “savings.”
unREAL, what crooks and liars they are!!!
Waivers for students and whomever else is in their voting base will probably appear in the conference version.
I don’t think they can force the reading of the entire 2K page bill because Reid took a bill that was about something entirely different that had already originated in the House and had been debated on the floor of the Senate, removed all the text and replaced it with his current bill.
The reading of the original bill had already been waived, so it couldn’t be forced after Reid substituted his text.
I’ll stand corrected by someone with better knowledge of it all, but that’s my impression.
I hope this balloon boy garbage on Fox isn’t pre-empting Sessions’ news conference...
That was my understanding, too, but I don't know for sure.
Thanks for posting the c-span link. Now I can monitor FNC too.
I was sitting here thinking the same thing.
Cash for Clotures = you’re so right!
Your state is fabulous. Just like your senators.
How long can a person’s blood boil before it turns to red steam? It’s either that or grinding my teeth to fine white powder!!!!
Yes they can, although they shouldn't, and the MSM and lefty "fact check" sites won't call them on it.
Nevertheless I am hoping the US public is not dumb enough to believe the lie.
Afraid so. Fox News also went into "National-Enquirer-gossip-is-news mode" during the rush to vote on Crap and Trade in the US House when Michael Jackson died.
Well, whatever. I’m going to miss it. Tune in later...
We haven’t missed Sessions. I monitor Fox Business too.
Balloon boy and the boy in Brazil stories seem to be over now, at least for a while.
It’s 12:15 PM in DC.
Obama: “For all those who are continually carping about how this is somehow a big-spending government bill, this cuts our deficit by $132 billion the first ten years and by over a trillion in the second. That argument that opponents are making against this bill does not hold water.” For those who saw the Obama’s “carping” clip on Greta on Monday — did you notice Obama’s blink rate? Obama blinked 29 times in 17 seconds and that is with the use of a a teleprompter. On this topic, Obama’s obviously under A LOT of stress, lying or BOTH. |
WOW. You mean, the accomplished liar gets nervous while he lies?
That’s hard to fathom.
letter i received in email this morning from email i sent to bill nelsons office on monday...he is so completely out of touch with the florida voters...and notice how he says this bill cuts 130 billion from the deficit....
Thank you for contacting me about health care reform.
On October 13, I joined a bipartisan majority in the Finance Committee and voted to pass the America’s Healthy Future Act of 2009. Senator Reid merged this bill with another bill passed by the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee earlier this year, and unveiled the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2009. On November 21, I voted to bring this bill up for debate.
I am pleased with much of what is in Senator Reids bill. It would allow those who are happy with their insurance to keep what theyve got, including veterans and seniors on Medicare. It creates State-based exchanges where those without coverage, or those who are unhappy with what they have, can get coverage at an affordable price. The bill also would hold insurers’ feet to the fire, requiring them to cover everyone and preventing them from dropping someone who gets sick. Additionally, it contains several measures aimed at reducing overall medical and prescription drug costs and eliminating waste and fraud in the system. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has estimated that Senator Reids bill will reduce the Federal budget deficit by $130 billion over ten years.
Among the improvements I added to the bill in the Finance Committee is a provision that would preserve benefits for an estimated 800,000 Medicare Advantage enrollees in Florida and another provision that would protect tax benefits for seniors who have high medical expenses. I am happy that these provisions are included in Senator Reids bill as well.
As for a public option, Senator Reids bill includes a public option that would allow States to opt out if they choose. I support this plan because it will provide consumers with more choices and make it harder for any one company, public or private, to dominate the insurance market.
I intend to improve this bill by introducing an amendment that will force pharmaceutical companies to give rebates to the Federal government for certain drugs purchased under the Medicare Part D program. These rebates will save the government billions, which will be used to fill the gap in Part D coverage known as the doughnut hole.
I am hopeful that the Senate will vote on this bill before the end of the year. Regardless of where anyone stands on the specifics, I think we all can agree that the system we have can be unfair and too costly, and needs reform. Again, I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue. Please don’t hesitate to contact me in the future.
Sincerely,
Senator Bill Nelson
