Sen. Herb Kohl is working hard for us (yawn!)
Senator Herb Kohl (D-Wisconsin) | December 22, 2009 | From The Deer Stand

Posted on 12/22/2009 2:19:56 PM PST by From The Deer Stand

Here's the babble that Senator Herb Kohl (D-Wisconsin) puts out in response to tough questions about his support of the monstrosity of a Health Care Bill:

One of the most important functions of Congress is to oversee and balance the Executive branch and its agencies and I can understand your frustration with the American government. Our democracy is not perfect, and it does not always produce the results we want with the speed and effectiveness we would desire. But our government does strive to balance the many interests and concerns of our diverse nation in a manner that is representative and fair. The process requires public servants - elected and unelected - dedicated to the ideas of democracy, the good of their home states, and the good of the nation. In my years in the Senate, I have worked hard to be that sort of public servant.

The issues confronting our nation are not simple and have no easy solution yet they are not insurmountable. Free, open, honest debate must play a role in solving the problems facing our nation. Health care and reducing the deficit are a couple of important matters generating strong opinions. As the Democratic leaders in Congress, Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) advocate the principles of the Democratic Party and our agenda for the nation as a whole. I always try to work with them, as well as their Republican counterparts, to ensure we do what=s best for America.

As the senior Senator from Wisconsin, I represent the entire state, and not just those who voted for me. When I was first elected, I stated that I would be ANobody=s Senator But Yours@ and I have always tried my best to serve all the people of Wisconsin.

They understand all right, politicians who live and breathe public opinion are not ignorant of the opposition to this and from whom it’s coming (both sides, even if for different reasons). This is the height of slapping of us in the face, to not only deny the consent of the governed, but to add insult to injury by dishonestly pretending to misunderstand that opposition. There’s no way that they’re unaware of it, it’s impossible.

In all the years of American history, I cannot think of any congress containing such dishonorable members. The concept of honor is alien to them. Even worse, they have completely dismissed the founding principle of their government only deriving from the consent of we the governed. As someone else posted here, our forefathers took up arms for less than this.

Since Kohl’s comment that doctors shouldn’t make more than $70,000 per year, I will no longer shop at Kohl’s.

I’d love to see Herb live on 70K per year. He is one of the emost useless Senators in existence, but because of his money, no one wants to run against him.

We in Wisconsin are not well served by either of our Senators, or state administration either, for that matter.

Kick them all out!!

I don’t think Kohl’s should make any profit, and I think all Kohl’s executives should be limited in salary to no more than what their lowliest cashier makes.

I also think that Senator Kohl should be removed from office at the earliest possible moment.

Herb Kohls hasn’t had an ownership in Kohls for nearly 20 years.

The family sold the grocery chain first and later the dept stores were bought, then went public.

Next time I see him strolling in Milwaukee he’s going to find himself in the middle of an improptu “listening session.”

Herb Kohl does not own Kohls Department store. Hate him if you want, but you need to have your facts straight.

... I will no longer shop at Kohl’s.

Asked my wife to stop a year ago when I found out the connection. She was happy to do so.

Here is the reply we got:

Thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding health reform. I appreciate your interest in this very important issue.

Since you last contacted me, Congress has made great strides towards reforming America's health care system. On November 7, 2009 the House passed the "Affordable Health Care for America Act," which has been placed on the Senate legislative calendar. In the Senate, Majority Leader Harry Reid unveiled the "Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act," on November 18, 2009. Both of these bills would expand coverage to the majority of Americans, curb the rising cost of health care, cut the deficit and improve the quality and efficiency of our health care system. Those who are satisfied with their current coverage would be able to keep it and insurance companies would be prohibited from denying or rescinding coverage from patients based on their health status or preexisting conditions

I was pleased that a number of my bills were included in the merged Senate package, including initiatives that would improve the health and long-term care of seniors and work to reduce the cost of health care. These include the Nursing Home Transparency and Improvement Act, the Patient Safety and Abuse Prevention Act, the Physician Payments Sunshine Act, Medicare Payment Improvement Act of 2009, as well as provisions from the Retooling the Health Care Workforce for an Aging America Act. My hope is that these are included in the final health reform bill passed by Congress.

The time for reform is now, we cannot wait another ten or twenty years until health care costs consume an even greater percentage of our economy and the budgets of American families and businesses. I look forward to working with my colleagues in Congress to complete this important legislation.

Again, thank you for your comments. I will be sure to keep your thoughts and concerns in mind as legislation progresses through Congress
