Incumbent Democratic Senator Byron Dorgan may have a serious problem on his hands if Republicans recruit Governor John Hoeven to run for the U.S. Senate in North Dakota next year.
The first Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 telephone survey of likely voters in North Dakota finds the popular Republican governor leading Dorgan by 22 points 58% to 36%. Just six percent (6%) are undecided in that senatorial contest.
Part of the challenge for Dorgan is the health care legislation working its way through Congress. Dorgan, along with every Democrat in the Senate, has voted to move the legislation forward and is expected to vote for final approval of the reform later this week. Thats not likely to be well received in North Dakota where just 30% favor the proposed health care reform plan and 64% are opposed.
Opposition to the health care plan is higher in North Dakota than it is nationally. Eighty-four percent (84%) of those who strongly favor the plan support Dorgan. Eighty-six percent (86%) of those who strongly oppose it back Hoeven.

Fry you bas%$rd!!! Get your a$$ in Obama’s unemployment line with some real unemployed Americans who use to work for a living until you Democratic asshats took control of Congress!
There will be “blood”.
The North Dakota Newspapers are not reporting these poll results.
This is the second poll—a Zogby poll was done mid-November with similar results.
Put pressure on the North Dakota Newspapers to report these poll results, otherwise Dorgan senses no fear of being a Marxist
Vote them out.
First, they have to get Hoeven to run.
It’s a beeeeuuuuutiful thing !
Gee I wonder why he’s losing???
The off-term elections are going to be a nasty wake-up call for the self-absorbed and sadly deluded Democrats, who, it would seem, have not the slightest interest in the opinions and feelings of Americans nationwide and across party lines.
And if they don’t start paying some sort of rudimentary attention, at least, to the thoughts of citizens - and they won’t - 2012 is going to be chockablock with Republican triumphs all across the country, most especially the White House.
The Democrat mass suicide with this superfatted and astronomically expensive health bill, which will, if passed, subject Americans to the sort of half-arsed care, buried in a morass of red tape and idiot bureaucrats (think post office or vehicle registry, with the power of life and death), which afflicts, for example, England, will be seen as a terrible mistake and a pyrrhic victory of historic proportions which brought down its authors.
The only question is, can America be saved after four years of President Hussein? Unfortunately, at this point no one knows the answer.
Fervent prayer is most definitely in order; it is an extremely dicey time to be an American.
Has Cornyn put pressure on Hoeven to run?
Schumer put a lot of pressure on Casey, McCaskill, and Shaheen to run. Our side isn’t willing to do the work needed to win.
...or make the sacrifice in many cases.
Then I expect a strong endorsement from Hoevan for the conservative candidate against Mr. Toast Dorgan.
Hoeven, Pawlenty, and Thune could have special advantages in neighboring Iowa if those guys decided to run for President.
I suspect Hoeven will yield to Pawlenty. He really wants to run. Thune probably wants to be Romney’s running mate. But if Romney fails to gain traction in the polls, then GOP Beltway would dump Romney for Thune.
There’s a big wave building on the horizon, shipmate. Dems need to leave port. There’s no safety for them there.
That makes two Senate seats that the GOP could virtually have for the asking that they won't be getting.
Hoeven vs Dorgan and Giuliani vs Gillibrand would both be walkovers. But, if those two Republicans choose not to run, the seats will almost certainly stay Democrat.
It's a little disappointing, really.
Ditto, but these SOBs will get some director job at Fannie,Freddy, or something.
The Republican base will remember if Hoeven and Giuliani don’t step up to the plate this time.
If you want a good Senator, get one from the state legislature.
Maybe that’s why more Governors don’t run for the Senate.
Some unknown state legislator is not likely to beat Dorgan though.
Short of putting a gun to his head Hoeven needs to be convinced to run.
