Ford offers buyouts to all UAW workers Photo 3:27pm EST

DETROIT (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co said Monday it is offering its 41,000 U.S. factory workers buyouts and early retirement offers in a bid to reduce its payroll costs as it aims to return to profit by 2011.

The buyouts mark the second round of such offers for Ford workers represented by the United Auto Workers union. About 1,000 workers took offers to leave the automaker in July.

Ford workers have until late January to accept the offers, which include payouts of up to $70,000 cash for newer hires to $60,000 cash for veterans already eligible for retirement.

"Despite a strengthening in our business, we still have a surplus in employees," said Ford spokesman Mark Truby.

Oiler....

I will tell the Ford people I know, I am sure they will tell you thank you in advance.

Extensive details of Fords Powertrain Goals and Objectives for at least the next 7 years.

The "Eco-Boost" engine will supplant the Small Block Chevy IMHO.

With it's constant Torque Curve, no one sees the revolution it is from turning the ICE from a variable airpump to a constant one.

GM and Chrysler can't touch it, 125 patents Ford has pending on it, they are TOAST IMHO....

I have not bought union for years...none of us have around here.

The UAW is NO friend of the US.

There is a large auto industry growing in the Mid - South. We’ve got Hyundai, Mercedes, two Nissan plants, Volkswagen, and a new Toyota plant is being constructed in Mississippi. We also have Saturn but I have no idea what is going to happen to that.

I bought a Nissan truck made in Mississippi with mostly parts made in the USA. The absolute best truck I have ever owned!

Will the cost of vehicles then go down??? Of course not...So what's all the oooraaah about???

Well there would be less money being spent in Michigan and more people and votes would move out of Michigan.

Well, don't confuse "workers" with "bags of skin beating out pulses."

I have to wonder if F isn't considering pulling up stakes for a Right to Work state down the line. Maybe a Right to Work country, the way things are going.

Go Ford! Divest yourself of all UAW members.

Never happen! The UAW is legally inserted into Ford so the best plan of action is to figure out how to get along.......

We also have Saturn but I have no idea what is going to happen to that.

The Saturn plant was making Chevy Traverses, they stop making them at that plant I think around Thanksgiving, they are going to start making them in Michigan I thank in Jan. Tennesseans are pretty pissed off about it. Basically I see it as the UAW ZeroObama Government Motors stealing jobs from right to work states and moving them to Union Democratic states.

I've noticed that Government Motors is heavily advertising the Traverse and Equinox at tax payer expense on their favorite propaganda TV stations like the Weather Channel and the History Channel.

yes it is. leave them (UAW)out of it and you once again become a profitable American comapny. If they are successful, my next car will be a Ford.

The anti-trust laws are intended to prevent monopolies, the UAW cannot own a car company and then represent the workers of its competitors.

That works in right side up world. But we live in an upside down world so I'm sure our Dear Leader can by mere "fiat" make that no longer a problem

Explain to me again what power the UAW has over Ford: Go out on Strike! What else? Then Ford can bring in people who are willing to work and there you have it in 2010. It’s not the 60’s any more. Perestroika!

“This would fit in nicely with my plan to stop working when all these new taxes on my labor begin. I am not going haul my old body out of bed every day to have the leeches suck more blood from me. I’m going to become a leech....”

Amen Bro. I plan on doing the exact same thing. For the past 20 years, I’ve made enough to pay my FICA out every year. When these new taxes hit, I’m finished working and paying taxes..DONE! FINISHED! NO MORE!!! And I encourage anyone else that works and can do it, to do the same thing. Starve these basturds of our tax dollars.

Today, I’m actually for the first time thinking about quitting my job next year. My husband makes more than enough for us to live on, and I’m tired of funding an extra 20K plus to the federal government.

It will allow me to manage the house better, do volunteer work where I choose, and best yet....starve this stinking government!

Here’s a hint to the union workers at Ford:
TAKE THE DEAL.

My dad, an OCAW (Oil, Chemical And Atomic Workers union) member
got offered a nice package in 1985 by DuPont-Conoco (after 44 years with
Conoco, then DuPont-Conoco).

He took the deal and lived decently until he passed on about two
years ago; his wife (my mom) lives comfortably because he did take the deal.

A few of the “hardcore” unionists didn’t take the deal.
And were not happy when they were shown the door in a couple of years.

Without the nice separation package.
(Fair or not, that’s what happened.)

the UAW cannot own a car company and then represent the workers of its competitors.

A simple and straightforward rationale. Thanks.
