Perhaps someone could translate the article for us. The letter, as it appears on the website, is in English. I noticed this is a sidebar a Weasel Zippers.

Sounds like a simple extortion letter rather than a demand for jizya.

I would say the same thing........except for it seems this letter was sent to everyone in the town or for the whole town according to the article.

It's really not that clear though.

I’d be inclined to reply that they can come in person to collect their USD $41k (215k kronor)...in hot lead.

What's the difference?

This sounds like a “Nigerian letter” on the pushy side. It is probably just a scam, but a clever law-enforcement body could rather easily set up a sting to catch the perps.
It almost reads like someone pretending to be Muslim.

What's the difference?

For one thing the letter does not explicitly say that you owe us this money because of Islamic law.

Also, according to Wikipedia the jizya is supposed to be paid to an Islamic state.

It's actually not even clear that the writers are Islamic. They could just be using that as a means of threat.

The fact that the whole town received the letters could just be a way of increasing the likelihood that a few suckers will pay up.

To me it sounds like the letter is implying that the individual family receiving it has been under observation. If every family received the same letter and amount that doesn't make sense.

It's a distinction without a difference. This is how a "state" gets started: the local thugs start putting the bite on anyone who looks weak. After a while, guess who makes the rules?

Isn't it obvious that this is how Islam got started under the thug murderer who started the "religion"? It's been an extortion scam from the start - obey me or die, pay me or die, give me your little girls or die, let me take over your country or die, am I repeating myself here?

What's the difference? There is none. Even if this is just a few freelancers, what if the locals roll over? After a while the citizens will be paying two masters: the previous alleged "State", and the emergent real one. Unless the former does something about the latter, eventually the roles will be switched.

Welcome to the real Third World, Islamic Hellhole version. You think the "Kingdom" of Saudi Arabia is different in any meaningful way?

It's all a protection racket.

It’s also not even clear the writer is in Denmark. He refers to “our country” and “your part of the world”. This could even be another type of Nigerian letter. Nigeria is 50% Muslim BTW.

You could be right. My statements are based on the supposition that it’s from immigrants in Denmark, which is not unreasonable. I think that’s the same assumption pretty much everyone else is going on.

For those living in a cave, jiyza is the tax imposed by Muslims on non-muslims living in Islamic societies. I thought all the welfare and foreign aid was jiyza enough. Apparently not enough.

From the point of view of the Muslim rulers, jizya was a material proof of the non-Muslims' acceptance of subjection to the state and its laws, "just as for the inhabitants it was a concrete continuation of the taxes paid to earlier regimes."

The irony is this jiyza demand (with explicit death threat) is from a suburb of Copenhagen. Copenhagen, host to the giant global summit on the "world's greatest threat to mankind" - the weather).

"The time for talk is over" - so said Obama today at the biggest science and political hoax in human history, in what wold be the greatest redistribution of wealth to one continent and one religion (Africa and Islam).
