Perhaps it is the spirit of the season, but my empathy receptors are in overdrive for poor Barack Obama. All he wanted for Christmas was a health-care reform bill -- and all he got was a lousy insurance industry bailout that few can love.
Lefties hate it because there's no public option and no Medicare buy-in for those 55 and over. Righties hate it because requiring that Americans buy private insurance or face penalties means taxpayers will have to hand over more of their hard-earned dollars (assuming they have a job) to the government.
Obama, in other words, is having a Harriet Miers moment. Or, rather, he's having a George W. Bush moment.
When Bush nominated the in-over-her-head Miers to the Supreme Court, his fan base turned on him. As one ardent Bush supporter told me at the time: "It was in that moment that I realized he really might not know what he's doing."
And so things seem to have turned for Obama. Left-leaning Democrats suddenly are wondering: Who is this guy? What happened to the liberal dream-maker who was going to provide health care to every person in the country while hand-feeding grateful polar bears basking on vast expanses of restored sea ice?
Obama didn't so much move center as he just stood there and let others craft his seminal legislation. Now, it would appear, he can't quite close the deal.

Mine are not. He made his bed, let him lie in it. Maybe a few Xmas ghosts will visit him, but I doubt it.
He can continue to stuff his face with Wagu(?) steak, caviar and whatever else in compensation in his Wednesday night parties with his few remaining friends, sycophants, suck-ups and press (but I repeat myself). Poor, poor, poor Barry.
“Righties hate it because requiring that Americans buy private insurance or face penalties”
lefties hate that even more. They thought they’d get insurance from the govt for free and now they have to pay a fine. And private insurance was supposed to be ‘evil.’

I’m stealing that...but I will give you credit...
The right and center is very angry about it because government is interfering in healthcare and it raises taxes and premiums.
I cannot believe that Obama and his socialists are that stupid to pass this crap and call it victory when in reality it is an absolute disaster for them. But yes, they are that stupid.
Righties hate it because requiring that Americans buy private insurance or face penalties
I thought we hated it because it was another brick in the wall of totalitarianism...but maybe that’s just me...
Kathleen, every act of Obama no matter how ineffectual
you may see it, forges another link in the chains our
children will wear. When they are tightened around our
throats I will have no empathy for you as you were
WARNED that it would happen. Good men and women, fellow
citizens, gave their very lives to stave off this dark
future while you and your ilk blathered on about things
with no meaning, no meaning at all.
Tet.
Oh, come on, you gotta wonder about her closing line;
“Now, it would appear, he can’t quite close the deal.”
It was just filed...
Amen, Tet...whew...
sorry, I have K. Parker on permanent ignore -— I haven’t bothered to read media-whore K. Parker since she did the Mediascum’s dirty work against Sarah Palin...... if ever she has anything worthwhile to say I expect that someone else out there will say it better.
Landing at WaPo does prove she knew what she was doing last year, though -— the way to suck up to the media powers is to prove you can be a “token Republican” who will help to take down any inconveniently conservative leaders. There’s that bozo at the NY Times who performs the same “useful” function for the media..... I ignore him, too.
I would think her continual whoring-out to the journalistic puppet-mastes would leave K. Parker with few friends...or readers.
I’m thinking Parker doesn’t deserve the time it would take to read her article. She certainly doesn’t deserve a considered response to it.
Kathleen who? I don’t read her any more.
No chance then that her comment about his not able to close the deal might have come from somewhere that could score points even for whoredom?

ah yes, Kathlene parker- the Sarah Palin-hating, Christian bashing liberal that pretends to be centrist and feigns surprise when REAL Republicans call her to task for her crap articles
[[Kathleen who? I dont read her any more.]]
When it became too hard to tell whether I was reading her or Leonard Pitts Jr (a whining liberal, Bush hating, Christian hating ‘columnist’) I stopped reading her- which was too bad- she did have a way with words before she sold out to the liberal press- she used to be one of the better reads i nthe morning- but no more-
La, la, la, la, la—I can’t hear you.
