On orders from President Barack Obama, the U.S. military launched cruise missiles early Thursday against two suspected al-Qaeda sites in Yemen, administration officials told ABC News in a report broadcast on ABC World News with Charles Gibson. Share ABC's Brian Ross details missile strike on al-Qaeda militants in Afghanistan.
One of the targeted sites was a suspected al Qaeda training camp north of the capitol, Sanaa, and the second target was a location where officials said "an imminent attack against a U.S. asset was being planned."
The Yemen attacks by the U.S. military represent a major escalation of the Obama administration's campaign against al Qaeda.

They must be enemies of Kenya.
Oil well (singular, apparently), No. 4 comma 1 each.
In any case, those weren't Iranian proxies, they were Iranians. Disputed area in a field that underlies both countries.
It appears to be an Iraqi responsibilty to deal with their buddies to the east.
Grump much?
“Grump much?”
Protect Obama’s morally bankrupt policies much?
You obviously have me confused with someone else.
Need spectacles much? ;>)
I will venture to GUESS that this was a part of on going military operations and it is a puff piece for Obama. If it was a bad result they would not have put Obama front and center. I will also guess they are desperate for any good press for Obama.
Differentiate between Iranian military and Iranian proxies much? Should we not be going after the head of the snake?
I didn't. I said they are Iranian proxies. They are Yemeni shiites being supported by Iran to destablize Saudi Arabia.
So is the Saudi ‘proxy’ in the White House trying to protect his masters?
Let’s see, pe_ne_lo_pe.. You confuse me with someone who was praising 0 for loosing some Tomahawks on some Yemenis, get snarky, then won’t let it go when it’s pointed out that you’re snarking up the wrong hombre.
No one here can help it that you mistook mention of Iranian proxies for being mention of Iranians.
Give it a rest much?
What I am clumsily trying to get you to contemplate...is the lack of real difference between a ‘proxy’ and a ‘state actor’.
Isn’t he going to send some Gitmo prisoners to Yemen pretty soon?
Perhaps, but I think you just misread or didn’t understand the OPs distinction, and have been digging the hole deeper since.
Iran is backing the sh’ias in Yemen to make things uncomfortable for the Saudis. Wouldn’t it be nice if the Saudis got pissed off enough at Iran to act as our proxies?
“Wouldnt it be nice if the Saudis got pissed off enough at Iran to act as our proxies?”
Like that has never happened before? It’s all a cluster you know what. The bottom line imho is that we had better nail down our policy about ‘proxies’ before they get us all killed. It’s time for clarity, like a cowboy from Texas expressed..you are either with us or against us....PERIOD!
They’ve acted as our landing strip, and tank parking lot, but haven’t fought a war for us that I recall.
The US military is shooting in the wrong direction.
Was the Gulf War for US? I remmeber it being a war to protect the gulf states from a rogue state actor (Iraq). The real test will be when our country blows up I guess. Which countries will be for freedom and which ones will be for tyranny. We should start planning our allies right now.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t it OUR responsibility as we are still in Iraq, to help them repel such attacks and secure these wells, be they one or more?
I could list theirs (the Commies/Islamic terrorists who ARE allied, even if loosely at this point) — not so sure which of our allies will be up to the task should we get hit though...
Does anyone know the real details of the Iraqi vs US responsibilities now? We, or the Coalition, have always backed off when the situation became Irag vs Iran, Mookie al-Sadr being a glaring example.
I really do suspect that a small fracas like this one looks to be would fall within the Iraqi’s baliwick.
War monger.
