BAGHDAD (AP) - Iranian forces crossed into Iraq and seized an oil well just over the two countries' disputed border, Iraq's government said Friday, prompting a protest from Baghdad and providing a dramatic display of the sometimes tenuous relations between the wary allies.

Is Iran trying to start a border war in an attempt to distract attention away from it’s nuke program?

That's because this is a disputed area where incursions have occurred BACK & FORTH for many many years.

Do a quick search under KEYWORD: oilfiels OR fauqa OR fakka for yesterday's discussions.

The entire world media giving obama a break here

Unreported crisis do not have to be dealt with

The US is blowing this off saying “Just typical behavior for Iran in “disputed” area”

Hey, that “dispute” was resolved by an international agreement, wasn't it? Those wells belong to Iraq.

BTW, this whole diplomatic softshoe is like saying, way back in the 1930’s, that Hitler's actions vs Czechoslovakia were just typical moves involving “disputed” territory...

and oh by the way.... Ahmanutjob is acting as boldly and recklessly as a guy who has the bomb ..... already

*ping*

Is there anyone you want to alert that the Irani incursion into the Fakka Oilfield is now up on the Drudge Report?

no “disputed” area there - the only one with a “dispute” is Iran. This issue of borders has been addressed with diplomacy and international law - the libs’ two preferred weapons

But Iran unwilling to comply

Kind of like Saddam was unwilling to respect the territorial integrity of Kuwait back in 1990- territory that was also “disputed”

“Is Iran trying to start a border war in an attempt to distract attention away from it’s nuke program?”

On the contraray, I believe this is the tip of the iceberg- the first thing Iran will do when it has the bomb is to revisit and resolve old grievances, with intimidation and force. Israel Knows this.

having a nuke in your pocket is a great ego builder for a little weasel like ahmadnutjob

The other threads about these continuing incursions explain in detail that this Iraqi/Irani borderland is frequently the site of incursions, and has been, as I stated above, for many many many years. When I first became aware of this incident yesterday, I also had no idea that this was happening all the time. Of course, we also don’t know if THIS specific incident will lead to bigger military action.

This was posted three different times yesterday, and if you scroll above and click on the KEYWORD 'fakka' it will take you right over to where this thread and the other three are indexed.

VERY interesting discussions.

Did you also see the two threads about the assassination plot by Ahmarealnutjob to take out Netanyahu - let me know if you need a link, they might really interest you, too.

there is a difference between an “incursion” and an invasion

If indeed Iran has moved regular or IRGC forces into Iraq, seized an oilfield, and dug in, it arguably falls out of the “incursion” category

And we would know more IF any media was doing its job and reporting fully, instead of blindly parroting the apparent US State Dept line that “incursions are frequent in this disputed area”

aka the diplomatic softshoe “nothing to see here folks, move along”

I wouldn’t be schocked to learn that these type of incidents happen all the time up and down the whole Iran/Iraq border and in the Persian Gulf as well . . . what’s interesting to me is why now this is getting the attention of the (at least some) media.

Why worry about it? Gore says we’re goners from Global Warming, anyway.

And oil (awl, to you Texans) is becoming obsolete what with all the new nuclear plants, windmills, solar panels, biomasses, ad infinitum that are making petroleum, natural gas and coal of no particular interest.

/sarcasm

Hi there, jhpigott!

I agree, I was absolutely amazed last night that every single radio station I checked at the top of the hour was carrying this story.

In the other threads, there were posts that stated that this has been going on for YEARS, that one week a group of Iranis will come on over and hoist a flag, and then the next week, it is vice versa and the Iraqis go and put up a flag, but that nothing ever comes of it.

Also, on BBC World Service radio, there was extensive coverage about the Credit Suisse scandal of funnelling millions upon millions of dollars to Iran, and perhaps because of non-stop coverage of the D.C. winter "blizzard" (... YAWN,) I didn't notice that covered in the U.S. MSM at all; in fact, aren't there supposed to be alot of new stringent sanctions -- or was that delayed due to the Pelosi/Obama Hopenhagen vacation??

I also saw this story covered on both CNN and Fox.

Hello, steve0 and paulycy -- here's a 'heads up' that the Drudge Report is now reporting about the incident at the Fauqa Oilfield; I'm reposting to this thread an interesting comment freeper steve0 made yesterday in one of the other messagethreads.

"....periodically, about every few months, the oil ministry guys from Iraq will go ... to fix something or do some maintenance. They'll paint Iraqi colours and throw an flag up.

"They'll hang out there for a while, until they get tired, and as soon as they go away, the Iranians come down the hill and paint it Iranian colours and raise an Iranian flag. It happened about months ago and probably happen again."

Iran also invaded Saudi Arabia using the Yemani surrogate. I think US drones were used to retalliate but can’t find the article in print

I read that it was cruise missiles - those are from the U.S. Navy; but I wouldn't be surprised if U.S. drones will be very busy on the Saudi/Yemeni border for some long while.
