Iran has helped Hizbullah form an operational network for attacks on Western targets, officials said. The officials said the Hizbullah priority was to strike Israeli and U.S. interests in Turkey.
"Hizbullah established an operational cell in Istanbul that included members of Iran's IRGC [Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps]," an official said.
Officials said Hizbullah organized a safe house and formed a front company in Istanbul. They said IRGC helped Hizbullah set up a tourist agency that would enable Iranian agents to easily enter Turkey.
In mid-2009, officials said, Turkey foiled a Hizbullah strike on an Israeli target. Officials said the attack, aided by IRGC, was meant to have taken place in Istanbul and avenge the killing of Hizbullah operational chief Imad Mughniyeh in 2008. Hibzullah has blamed Israel for Mughniyeh's death in Damascus, Syria.
Officials did not report any arrests of Hizbullah suspects. The government of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan has sought to maintain close relations with neighboring Iran.
In November 2009, Turkey and the United States reviewed regional insurgency threats. FBI director Robert Mueller led a delegation which reviewed details obtained from suspected insurgents in Turkey.
"We believe Hizbullah still has a presence in Turkey, although we think the security agencies have driven many of the operatives out of the country," the official said

Hmmm. There may be ugly consequences in the future for a dirty deal made with an ally that depends on Turkey for energy and revenues from energy.

“Has Hizbullah Changed? The 7th Hizbullah General Conference and
Its Continued Ideology of Resistance”
Brig.-Gen. (ret.) Dr. Shimon Shapira1

SNIPPET: “ Some Western analysts believe the political manifesto published in the wake of Hizbullahs 7th General Conference at the end of November 2009 represented a fundamental change in Hizbullah policy.
While its link to Iran as the ultimate source of authority was not mentioned in this or any previous political manifesto, this link that is part of Hizbullahs essence appeared in the Open Letter (Resala Maftuha)of 1985, which remains the founding manifesto of Hizbullah and continues to serve as the movements ideological basis.
The preface to the latest manifesto describes the decline of the United States as the sole superpower and the retreat of American power throughout the world. In reflection of these global changes, Hizbullah offers its resistance to Israel and the United States as the model for emulation throughout the world.”
Don’t worry, we could just put sanctions on them if it got ugly!
Hate to think about it, but Hezbollah has been setting up support infrastructure and sleeper cells on ever continent for the past 20 years. It won’t just happen in Turkey. Eventually, Hezbollah will launch attacks in America and Western Europe and against American targets in Asia, Africa and Latin America as well.
They are doing it in America also. They even elected one of their own as President on November 4, 2008.
