Interesting. I left Sasebo in 2001 and they weren't rotating additional MCMs in from CONUS at that time (USS Guardian and USS Patriot came over in the mid-'90s). I wonder when they started doing it regularly enough to find it more economical to leave them there. Makes you wonder about this statement:

The change was not due to recent tensions in the region, including missile launches by North Korea, according to Navy spokesman Charles Howard.

They used these awesome warship names for minesweepers?

What else is based at Sasebo? Surely not just these 4 ships?
