I can recall some 40-odd years ago when our well meaning choir director put "O Holy Night" on as a recessional for the Christmas midnight mass. She wanted all of us to sing it.

It was a moment beyond giggling. My only thought was, "Forgive them, Lord, they know not what they do. Or how badly they do it."
