(CNN) - Sarah Palin said she meant no disrespect to the man that elevated her to the national scene after she was photographed wearing a visor on which Sen. John McCain's name had been blacked out.
The gossip Web site TMZ ran photos of the former Alaska governor vacationing in Hawaii earlier this week in which Palin is shown with a McCain campaign visor with black marker covering the ex-presidential candidate's name.
The Web site declared the hat a "frontal attack on Sen. John McCain," but Palin told Politico she was merely trying to "be incognito" while vacationing in Hawaii.
"I am so sorry if people took this silly incident the wrong way," Palin said in a statement to the Web site. "I adore John McCain, support him 100 percent and will do everything I can to support his reelection. As everyone knows, I was honored and proud to run with him. And Todd and I were with him in D.C. just a week ago. So much for trying to be incognito."
A Palin source confirmed the accuracy of the former vice presidential candidate's comments.
The four term Senator McCain is up for re-election next year.

The Governor doesn’t owe these LSM queens any explanation whatsoever...
The real story here is how stupid and trivial the media has become.
I’d have blacked out the man behind the screen(or is it scream) as well. No need to even respond to trivial reporting, when we still have more important things to chat about, like Tiger Woods and Charlie Glibson and Oprah’s leaving
Come on Sarah. Big supporter here but what is wrong with admitting you don’t support McCain? He didn’t do much to support you now did he? And PLEASE don’t start “spinning” things. Incognito? How is it possible you could go incognito anywhere? Your public is out here and we will recognize our next President anywhere.
FWIW, actions speak loader than words ...she would do well to distance herself from McCain. I say good for her.
Minor issue, but hats are cheap. Someone should have thought better about this.
Lets just say she understands physics more than most know. I take it as a good shot, which we know she is.
media: she’s sending subtle signals, dont you guys see
This is like the ethic complaints against her because she wore a company jacket with a logo on it while as Governor. It must illustrate she’s promoting that company, instead of just grabbing any odd jacket to keep herself warm in the snow
Maybe so. It does make a point rather easily.
If she wore that mccain cap with the logo unmarked, then the media will still be writing about how strange that she’s a campaign cap.
This just show she didn’t want to waste a perfectly good cap
Hmmm.... Frugality..
Something Washington has not done in years if ever, no wonder they fear her.
Tiger Woods would have an easier time “going incognito” than Sarah Palin. Love ya Sarah, but we’d know you anywhere.

The Governor has now cut short her holiday and returned to Wasilla:
AK has18”new powder!So cut sunny vacation short(thanks, desperate paparazzi)Back early2enjoy AK snow&sparkle&Christmas prep!It all works out
about 3 hours ago from TwitterBerry
Sadly the paparazzi will now be ever present. They are some of the most ruthless and evil people around and will stop at nothing to get what they want (tawdry pictures usually). I sincerely hope her people are up to challenge these lowlifes will present from now on in.
This was just idiotic. Palin, you are gonna want people to take you really serious in a couple years, start thinking now. Youre a magnet for the media, so how did you think you were going to get away with this to begin with? For heavens sake, you can afford to go to Hawaii on vacation, you can afford $5 for a new hat. Geesh, talk about getting in touch with your inner blonde.
What a ridiculous article. Talk about ‘grasping’
Yes she could spend 5 bucks on a new visor, or she could just black out the part that is no longer relevant. In using the blackout method she just saved money that can be spent on her family.
This is what many of her supporters want - a common sense person willing to do things the Sarah Palin way and create a small inexpensive government in the process.
To fault Palin on this just because it is a small amount of money is missing the whole Going Rogue thing and what palin is all about.
Instead of sniping at Sarah Palin about this we should be celebrating and applauding her.
