"This is a classic example of a bait and switch." - Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison

WASHINGTON, D.C. - In an effort to stem billions of dollars in tax increases that would begin in several weeks and to improve transparency in the health care debate, U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) today introduced a motion with U.S. Senator John Thune (R-SD) that would send the government-run health care legislation back to the Senate Finance Committee with instructions that no taxes or fees be imposed on American families and businesses until the supposed benefits of the bill have begun. http://www.wilsoncountynews.com/article.php?id=25470&n=top-stories-hutchison-introduces-motion-to-send-health-care-bill-back-to-committee

With a vote of 56 to 41, two Democrats join the Republicans to vote against tabling the Hutchinson/Thune motion which would send the health care bill back to committee with instruction that no taxes or fees be imposed on American families and businesses until the ...bill has begun. Imagine saving the taxpayers money...not the Democrats.

Where is Wilson County News? I support any effort to stop this take over but this one looks a little like campaign mode to get positive press for KBH. Wouldn’t be surprised if poster is on her staff.

So after years of passivity, KBH is finally being vocal? Hmm ... does that have anything to do with being on the campaign trail?

>> Hmm ... does that have anything to do with being on the campaign trail?

Only a jaded, cynical voter that is fed up with Congress would believe that.

I’m with you 100%.

Here’s another good “amendment idea”.

How about “IF” they do defeat KBH’s amendment and pass this Health Care debacle, . . .

that they establish a defined account whereby ALL of the TAXES and FEES collected for this bill be segregated and identified throughout the 4 year period that will exist prior to the Health Care “Benefits” taking place.

Of course, this wouldn’t pass, but it would be interesting to see how the Dems would justify not having a “lock box” to “protect” their precious Health Care.

You don't know Kay. Notice she didn't move to kill the bill. She's RINO all the way. This tough talk on taxes is her version of an Obama photo op in her bid for the governorship of TX. We don't want her and her RAT ways.

Her ads say a lot. A lot of hogwash. No, she is NOT for more border protection and her stupid, stupid, stupid “I jammed prisoners’ cell phones” is pure horse hockey. Yo, Kay, prisoners’ aren’t supposed to have cell phones in the first place.

I do not work for Kay although if I lived in Texas, I would. I actually was listening to the debate on C-Span yesterday and didn't hear or read anything about it. Wilson County News is the only place I found that reported her motion. Of course the Democrats voted it down (see: http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=111&session=1&vote=00379 ). It really hit home to me how their “don't confuse me with the fact, my mind is made up” attitude is all consuming. If the health care bill passes today, the government will begin collecting taxes for its support 1 Jan 2010. We're talking an estimated $2000 + extra in income tax per family per year. For a program that hasn't started! We're also talking about additional taxes on business, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, insurance companies - put bets health care prices will go up. This is outrageous since it will take four years!

She’s being vocal alright. She wants to send it back to commitee for changes. Sounds like she will vote for healthcare if things get changed in the current legislation. What she needs to say is, “ WE NEED TO KILL THIS BILL AND GO AFTER THE AMBULANCE CHASING LAWYERS INSTEAD!” We don’t need no stinking healthcare bill....PERIOD! It’s all a giant scam, just like everything else our current and former leaders have levied on us!

Will you people read the post and become outraged that it was voted down rather than attacking Kay? If God can use an ass to get his message out, he can use anyone including Sen Hutchinson and Thune attempt to bring some sanity to an out-of-control Congress.

Senate Health Care Bill Would Allow Insurers to Limit Coverage for Seriously Ill Patients

Friday, December 11, 2009
By Ricardo Alonso-Zaldivar, Associated Press

Washington (AP) - A loophole in the Senate health care bill would let insurers place annual dollar limits on medical care for people struggling with costly illnesses such as cancer, prompting a rebuke from patient advocates.

The legislation that originally passed the Senate health committee last summer would have banned such limits, but a tweak to that provision weakened it in the bill now moving toward a Senate vote.

As currently written, the Senate Democratic health care bill would permit insurance companies to place annual limits on the dollar value of medical care, as long as those limits are not "unreasonable." The bill does not define what level of limits would be allowable, delegating that task to administration officials.

The provision is included in far-reaching legislation that would carry out President Barack Obama's plan to revamp the health care system, expanding coverage to millions now uninsured and trying to slow budget-busting cost increases. A tentative deal among Senate Democrats to back away from creating a new government program to compete with private insurers appears to have overcome a major obstacle to the bill's passage.

Officials of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network said they were taken by surprise when the earlier ban on annual coverage limits was undercut, adding that they have not been able to get a satisfactory explanation. Read more here. read more here
