Woods voted top athlete of the decade
AP ^ | 12/16/09 | AP

Tiger Woods has been voted Athlete of the Decade by members of The Associated Press, his 10 years of incomparable golf outweighing nearly three weeks of a salacious sex scandal.

Just like so many of his 64 victories worldwide and 12 majors dating to 2000, it wasn't much of a contest.

Woods received 56 of the 142 votes cast by AP member editors. More than half of the ballots were returned after his Nov. 27 car accident which set off the sensational tales of infidelity that have tarnished Woods' image.

Lance Armstrong, a cancer survivor who won the Tour de France six times this decade, finished second with 33 votes, followed by tennis Grand Slam champion Roger Federer with 25 votes.

Woods had more PGA Tour titles in one decade than all but four of golf's greatest players won in their careers.

Woods led all cheaters with 14.

I think the woodwork (sorry) has 4 more to come out.

18 total.

Leaving Elin to be the 19th hole...

I think the pros are required to walk, but they don’t have to carry their clubs. They should. Being able to hit the ball when tired is part of the deal. It’s like basketball. Lots of people can hit free throws — hitting free throws after running up and down the court for 20 minutes, while your legs are shaking and your heart is going 140 beats/minute is another matter entirely.

It’s gotta have scoreboard. Golf has scoreboard, but they count backward, so I dunno. Go figure.

I had a subscription to GD for a few years, but eventually lost interest in reading it.

Anyways, curious that the issue with the two idjits on the cover prominently features an article on how to “outsmart” people.

Jeez, how many years did it take him to do 14 holes?

He’s not even done yet!

Federer should have gotten it: he has 3 more majors than Tiger during this decade, plus these sick numbers:

1. 22 consecutive Major semifinals
2. 10 and then 7 consecutive Major finals made
3. Has won all four Slams
4. Has made the finals of each Slam at least 4 times
5. has made the semis of each Slam at least 5 times
6. 7 consecutive Wimbledon finals made (6-1)
7. 6 consecutive US Open finals made (5-1)
8. 4 Consecutive French Open finals made
9. 3 Australian Opens in four years.
10. 3 Grand Slams in a year 3 different times
11. Made all four Grand Slam finals in a year 3 different times

And he had to go through the likes of Roddick, Nadal, Agassi, Hewitt, Djokovic and Del Potro to win those titles.

Athlete?

These sissies don't even carry their own clubs.

If golf was a timed event where you had to run from hole to hole and carry your own clubs, then it would be athletic.

Give these guys one hour to do 18 holes and make them carry all their clubs and I bet their scores would be comparable to mine.

Would guess it is more about money than anything else. Woods did raise the bar for golf skills, increased sponsor’s money, increased golf product sales and overall interest in the game. At the same time, he just recently lowered the bar for honesty and faithfulness and most other decent human values. And for many the skill he demonstrated and the tournaments he won are more important than decent human values. That is state of our Nation today.

“Bowling gives more of a workout...”

You must be a vigorous bowler, or you ride around in an electric cart. If you walk, it’s about five miles for eighteen holes, if you go pretty straight tee to green. I used to caddy when I was a kid, and I continued to carry my own clubs until into my fifties, when I started to pull a cart most of the time. Try doing that. It’ll give you a pretty good workout.

“I would NOT call myself an athlete or even golf a sport.”

Try to find someone who is not athletic who can drive a golf ball 300 yards. Or hit a wedge 135 yards, much less land it where it is supposed to go. It’s takes tremendous concentration, coordination, and timing to pull it off.

It is near the Christmas break of the school year. The students have turned in all their work and there is really nothing more to do. All the children are restless and the teacher decides to have an early dismissal.

Teacher: "Whoever answers the questions I ask, first and correctly can leave early today."

Little Johnny says to himself "Good, I want to get outta here. I'm smart and will answer the question."

Teacher: "Who said 'Four Score and Seven Years Ago'?"

Before Johnny can open his mouth, Susie says, "Abraham Lincoln."

Teacher: "That's right Susie, you can go home."

Johnny is mad that Susie answered the question first.

Teacher: "Who said 'I Have a Dream'?"

Before Johnny can open his mouth, Mary says, "Martin Luther King."

Teacher: "That's right Mary, you can go."

Johnny is even madder than before.

Teacher: "Who said 'Ask not, what your country can do for you'?"

Before Johnny can open his mouth, Nancy says, "John F. Kennedy."

Teacher: "That's right Nancy , you may also leave."

Johnny is boiling mad that he has not been able to answer to any of the questions.

When the teacher turns her back Johnny says, "I wish these bitches would keep their mouths shut!"

The teacher turns around: "NOW WHO SAID THAT?"

Johnny: "TIGER WOODS. CAN I GO NOW?"

I had forgotten about all the walking...that is a good point.

I didn’t use a cart or anything. I walked it.

Fox News and CNN have reported that Elin Nordegren moved to the top of the leader board on the PGA Tour yesterday after “beating” the world’s number one golfer. The news came after the world’s previous number one golfer inadvertently played the wrong hole
