That reminds me of a lecture I gave a divorced neighbor who had a nack of picking guys (without her asking questions) that caused her big problems. I said “ You cant look at men through the glasses that make them appear as your desires. You have to ask questions”
Those that love talk radio (as I did for many years) do so because it Presents a world that works the way they want to believe it does:“Democrats are evil. Republicans are good. Republicans save the economy, democrats destroy it. Voices that contradicts our vision is biased and have an agenda so dont listen to them.” It is those glasses. Problem is when it all falls apart: election losses, economy crashes, war situation gets worse not better. It takes a true believer to keep those glasses on.
And liberals don't have the answer either. In fact they have their own glasses:"Obama is too nice a guy. He works with Republicans too much. It is all Bushes fault, Bla-Bla-Bla..". Guess what?? Same glasses.
People do underestimate the power of prediction. And the reason predictions are powerful is that the prediction itself causes both action and reaction. That’s by Predilection.
If others hear your prediction and disagree than their predilection becomes to work against your prediction.
Your gal friend could gave been given better advice I think — I would ask her to not look at men at all, not give them an ear. Instead she might look at the faces of those around the man — for faces read character very fast and fairly accurately.
For example by looking at the faces of those women looking at the target man she might gauge that he is a charismatic Lothario, and then be able to step back and decide if she wants to put herself under such a man’s sway. Or she might in those faces of others see herself — for we often see in others what failings we ourselves have.
